Oh wow! Imagine having this outside your window!
(JL) Many of us look out the window and hope to see garden birds, imagine looking out the window every day to be greeted by five Kestrel chicks staring back at you…
Kestrels are pretty adaptable in their choice of nest sites, but this was an unusual nest location even for them. A pair of Kestrels nested in a flower box right outside the window of a busy house last summer. The homeowners took care not disturb them, and they raised five chicks, which spent long periods peering in through the window into the kitchen everyday, before all five fledged.
We have produced a publication on ‘Wildlife in Buildings; which will be released later this week, with loads of information on the wildlife which have made buildings their homes and how we can help them. Thanks to Kerry County Council, Donegal County Council and the National Biodiversity Action Planning Fund, of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage who supported this work, and to Penhouse Design, Tipperary County Council, Clare County Council, Laois County Council and The Heritage Council Photos and video by Cathal Forkan and John Lusby, thanks to Tony Nagle.

Finally got my hands on the Keep Kilcoole Tidy Newsletter (Kilcoole Tidy Towns) with my piece and photos on helping wildlife and biodiversity in our gardens.
We have all 3 species in Bray so make sure to submit your sightings.
Delighted to finally receive my IFM (Institute of Fisheries Management) Certificate in Small Streams Characterisation from the 2 day training programme delivered by the fantastic Prof. Ken Whelan of the AST (Atlantic Salmon Trust) back in May.
I am also trained in using the Biological Monitoring Working Party (BMWP) procedure for measuring water quality using families of macroinvertebrates as biological indicators.
