Operation slow down 266
This page was created to raise awareness of the dangers on Hwy 266 through Verdigris. Way too many injury and fatality wrecks happen on this stretch of road.
ODOT needs to make changes that can include lower speed limit, turn lanes and stop lights.
Shoutout to the Verdigris Police Department for keeping us safe everyday! We appreciate y’all and thank you for everything you have done so far!
Call ODOT!! If we don’t speak up we won’t be heard, and with that there will be no change!!
Had a very productive meeting with Mark Madeja, Jim Stout and Chief Jack Shackelford!
Mark Madeja, who is Senior Specialist of Public and Government affairs with AAA, is coming out on Thursday to look at our issue and see what they can do to help. He will also be talking to local first responders. He will be a big supporter of ours in this fight. We want change, don’t forget to call or email ODOT!

A van just decided to pass a car on 266. I had to drive off the road going 60 mph because it was coming at me head on. It was just ridiculous. I had my 4 year old daughter in the car with me.
I was rear ended in 2010 on 266 and it totaled my car. This was also due to a car passing.
This road really is a death wish. I lived off this road as a child and I visit my family frequently still. People need to think about other people’s lives when driving. Why is that so hard?

Rain, fog, very dark out and amazed how many drivers without headlights, I know most modern cars have auto day lights but those are not even on, very dangerous, and drivers tailgating so close on 266 there would be no way to stop in time before a chain reaction crash. Hope everyone makes it home safe.

Yesterday on the way to work and on the way home and again this morning the police/OHP have had people pulled over. I guess it could be a coincidence but I like to think our voices are being heard.

We need everybody to call Ms. Spence and ask them to make 266 safer.
If we remain quiet nothing will happen.
Please remember to call Christine Spence is the Project Engineer for the Tulsa district her contact information is 918 270-5820!!! THIS IS THE NUMBER YOU NEED TO CALL!! Call and express your concerns, we need this changed before something else happens again!!
Spoke with ODOT and the Town of Verdigris today, we are starting the paperwork to conduct a speed test on 266. They have to do a speed test before they changed the speed limit. Even though they are doing a speed test that doesn’t mean the speed limit will change. So make sure you call ODOT and voice your opinions/concern. Contact info for them is in a previous post.

This is from Verdigris Police Chief, Jack Shackleford.
To everyone concerned, the Town has reached out to ODOT in the last few years to try to get the speed limits reduced on 66 at both Franklin and 540 rd and also on 266, they even did two official traffic flow surveys. They refuse to do anything on both Highways, Christine Spence is the Project Engineer for the Tulsa district her contact information is 918 270-5820.
Good morning, what changes would you like to see on 266?
