At OnPrem, we continue to grow by promoting based on merit regardless of gender or background. Together we lead by example and represent what we know our company and industry can be.

In celebration of , we’re highlighting the top four ways that we continue to promote gender parity.

1. At OnPrem, every voice matters. We listen to our employees and the changes they would like to see.

2. Diversity and Equity are part of who we are. We established our Diversity and Equity program in 2017. It has grown to inform employee resource groups, charity and pro bono work, culture activities, and much more.

3. Equal pay means EQUAL PAY. Starting in 2017, we implemented pay parity across compensation bands.

4. We lead without bias. Our meritocracy develops leaders regardless of background or gender.

As part of our series, Profiles in Black History, this week we’re highlighting Viola Davis and Frank S. Greene.

Viola Davis, an American actress, producer, director, activist, businesswoman, and philanthropist, is a recipient of an Emmy, an Oscar, and two Tony Awards, making her the first African-American to accomplish the “Triple Crown of Acting”. In addition to the triple crown, she won the Harvard Foundation’s Artist of the Year Award in 2017, an honor given to the nation’s most acclaimed artists each year. Outside of her success on screen, Davis is widely recognized for her advocacy and support of human rights and equal rights for women and women of color.

An engineer, venture capitalist, and CEO, Frank S. Greene has made an impact on the tech industry. Greene earned a doctorate degree in electrical engineering in 1970 after serving in the United States Air Force. He went on to become the founding CEO of the Technology Development Corporation, an R&D organization that served the federal government. Not only was Greene a successful businessman, but he also cared deeply about improving African-American representation in technology and started a scholarship fund to support African-American students from the Bay Area. In 2001, Greene was inducted into the Silicon Valley Hall of Fame.

We’re back with our Profiles in Black History series, showcasing individuals who have made a significant contribution to either the media & entertainment or tech industry.

Shirley Ann Jackson is a theoretical physicist who has certainly left her mark on modern technology. Jackson earned a Ph.D. in nuclear physics from MIT in 1973, making her the first African-American woman to earn a doctorate degree from MIT. Jackson went on to conduct research in telecommunications, paving the way for the invention of fiber-optic cables that revolutionized global communication systems. Her research in physics contributed to the creation of the touch tone telephone and portable fax. Since 1999, Jackson has served as the President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a private research university in New York.

An American playwright, producer, actor, screenwriter, and director, Tyler Perry is best known for his “Madea” franchise, which has grossed more than $660 million worldwide. Perry began his journey in live theater in the 1990s, and then transitioned to film and television in the 2000s. Since his transition to film and television, he has created content for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN, opened his own studio in Atlanta (Tyler Perry Studios), and created numerous successful films along the way. In 2021, he was honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for his commitment to charitable and social justice causes during the economic distress caused by the coronavirus pandemic, racial reckoning, and homelessness in his community.

In honor of , every Friday we will be spotlighting two people who have made significant contributions to the media & entertainment or tech space.

We’re kicking off our spotlight series with Issa Rae, a producer, writer, and actress who is most widely known as the co-creator and star of the hit HBO series “Insecure”. Not only is Rae the lead actress of this Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated show, but she is also a co-writer and producer for this series. Rae has starred in feature films, and was included in Time’s list of 100 most influential people in 2018. Rae is an advocate for amplifying and uplifting the voices of Black creators, and she often highlights Black-owned businesses and Black creators across Los Angeles in “Insecure”.

Next up is Ursula Burns, the first Black woman to be CEO of a Fortune 500 Company when she became CEO of Xerox in 2009. Prior to joining Xerox, Burns earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University. During her time at Xerox, Burns was selected by President Obama to lead the STEM Education Coalition, an alliance of 1,000+ tech organizations seeking to improve student participation in STEM subjects through legislation. Burns has also served on the board of many prominent companies, including Exxon Mobil, Uber, and VEON.
