I'll be sharing my art, art-related stories and eventually, some blogs and tutorials. Let me know if there's something you want to see.
Experimenting with the pallet knife.
A sketch I did for a friend of her mom’s wedding day.
The finished portrait of a friend’s mom ❤️.
Well, most of my gardens have been rebuilt so I’m able to get back to painting in my spare time. I’m working on two portraits of a friend’s mom for her. One of my sketches is below…painting will start today.
Work in Progress: I’ve been obsessing about my garden so I haven’t gotten in front of the easel as much as I’d like. I started this painting a couple weeks ago and plan on finishing it up soon.
Inspired by Galveston Island 🥰
Well, I’m not happy with how Clive Myrie turned out but I’m out of time. I love the challenge and one day I’ll be happier with the results 😁
I thought I’d get a sketch of sitter Clive Myrie going for this week’s PAOTW.
Painting to come.
I was so excited that Portrait Artist of the Week came back but with Icenado here in Houston, I spent most of my non working hours doing yard cleanup and feel quite blessed that it wasn’t worse for my family.
I tried the wonderful sitter Nicola I Coughlan earlier this week but I think my frustration came through and sweet Nicola looked frazzled. I decided to just do a quick colored pencil sketch so I had something for this week. I’ll definitely paint her later because I must paint that glorious blouse 😁
Lady at the Bath is done, I’ve just got to wait for her to dry and be varnished then in a frame to hang by the soaking tub. 😁
I love making my own decor 😊.
I’ve decided early on that doing the Strada Easel challenge is not going to work for me. I can find time to paint every day but not enough time to create an entire painting (even small) that I like. I don’t want to bring stress into something that I do to de-stress so I’m going to drop it.
Here’s what would have been day three only I did it over days 3-5 😂
Day 2: Strada Easel Challenge. I liked this painting much better about an hour ago but that’s all the time I have for it today.
I decided this Strada series will be called Pieces of Home.
Day #1 Strada Easel Challenge: the rose that bloomed in the garden today. Thirty-one days, painting daily is going to be a challenge for sure but I’m going to keep them simple to get one done a day.
WIP- I’ve got the color blocked in for a painting to go in my bathroom. She has a long way to go but I like where it’s heading...trying for a Roman bath feeling🎨 🛁 😊
My daughter requested this painting from a photo of her and a friend on Galveston Island. She’s giving it to her friend for Christmas.
I’m going to jump into this challenge in January. It’s a painting a day from life. We’ll see how it goes 😀
It's that time of year again! Dust off your art supplies and join artists around the world participating in the January STRADA Challenge. Check out this link for details and registration information https://www.stradaeasel.com/pages/january-2021-strada-31-day-challenge-information
My completed portrait of opera singer Lesley Garrett for Portrait Artist of the Week. I didn’t get exactly where I wanted to be but if I keep fiddling, I’m going to ruin what I do like, lol.
My sketch of Opera singer Lesley Garrett for my PAOTW. I’ll be painting later this week but since I got such an early start, I thought I’d upload my sketch.
‘The Witness’, my attempt at reporter Jon Snow for . I was tickled that he read my comment during the live show about getting up at 4am to watch from Houston . He even pronounced my name correctly! 😂
Overall, I think Jon is the 8th portrait and I’m seeing improvement in features so I’m pleased. Can’t wait to try again next week 😁
My finished portrait of Russell Tovey for . It was fun, I enjoyed trying something a bit different 😄
WIP of Russell Tovey...I’ll upload the finished version later but I wanted to hit the deadline for the US. Trying monochrome after one of my screenshots had tons of shadow and light. I could have finished if I didn’t cook for two days straight 😂.
My attempt at Baroness Floella Benjamin for PAOTW ... I think this is my sixth portrait now. One more in the brushes. I’m much happier with this week’s attempt than last week’s disaster, lol.
I saw a picture online of the road into Vinca, Italy. I searched for the image owner and finally found her on Instagram. She did not respond to my request to paint her image but I was craving a paint session so I went ahead. It’s for my home so she’s not losing anything.
Frame search coming 😁
Running behind again; I’ll have to paint him later, lol
I’m so excited that Portrait Artist of the Week returned! All I’ve gotten done so far is my sketch of Annie MacManus. I’ll be painting her tomorrow but may not be done before the 8am CST deadline. I’m looking forward to the upcoming shows!
This is the first painting I’ve started since before I moved, I’ve missed it!
Unfortunately, I did not get to do the last portrait for Portrait Artist of the Week. Been working on selling and buying houses this week. I’m going to give it a whirl after things calm down 😊
Time’s up for this week’s Portrait Artist of the Week submission. Our sitter was the wonderful Professor Green. It’s been a challenge for me but one I enjoyed immensely. I’m sad there’s only one more week.
I’m seeing improvement so that pleases me.
WIP: sketch of Professor Green for this week’s portrait. Portrait attempt 3 is on its way. 😁
Sunday our sitter will be Professor Green...I hope to have a better portrait as I’m familiar with the sitter this time. Can’t wait to try again.
Welllll, times up on my second portrait attempt. Painting people from imagination is so much easier than this 😂
I was super busy with work and life this week but I made a commitment to myself so I did it though she’s far from complete....another hundred or so and I expect to see improvement 😁
I love SkyTV for this Portrait Artist of the Week series and thankful for the live sitter this week ~ Clare Balding
Side note: I’m using canvas paper for these, I like it. 👏
