Black Kat Luck - the art of Kat Dreibelbis

This pair of little butterflies measures approximately 1.5 inches in either direction and I love how they pop in the vintage 90’s frames 🦋 ❤️

This is one of those pieces that I bought the frame and made the art to match it. Originally it held a mirror and was rather scruffy looking, but the shape was too good to pass up. I cut a piece of Masonite to fit the form and referenced an older watercolor piece which already echoed the shape. Once I finished the painting I mixed up a custom shade of subdued gold and gave this once-dingy mirror frame a new life!

I’m painting with my right hand and petting Twyla the Wonder Kitty with my left. Is this what achieving a work/life balance looks like? 😁

It’s and I’m working with my acrylic paints to bring this bloom to life

Introducing Seamus O’Woolly! He stands out as in individual among the flock thanks to his bright red tam and his equally charming disposition!

I just finished this little trio of moths and I love how they turned out! They will be available for sale but I will enjoy having them around until they flutter off to their new homes!

A funny thing happened with this painting… once I got all of the details right on the moon I popped it into it’s frame to get a good look at it and figure out the next steps. Make the moon into a hot air balloon? Add anthropomorphic stars frolicking around it? A face on the moon? As soon as I saw it in the frame, I knew it was finished. It doesn’t need anything else. I think it’s a piece that derives it’s charm from it’s simplicity, and I love it. Apparently is a likes it too, seeing as she tried to help with the pictures 🐈‍⬛❤️

Hey friends! If you’re trying to figure out what to do with your weekend then you should check out this Saturday! I’ve participated in this event several times already and am excited to be back again this Saturday! There are so many treasures to be had, both handmade and vintage, as well as food trucks and amazing coffee! Come out and find your new favorite treasure, and maybe even grab one of my altered vintage teacups!

19/07/2023

It’s and here’s the reason I have random smears of blue paint all over my hands and arms. I’m working on a smaller piece of the moon that I hope to have finished for a show this weekend!

I just need to do a little more fine-tuning on her but I’m so close to finished that I couldn’t resist seeing how she looks in the mat ❤️

07/07/2023

Progress! There’s still more work to be done on this piece but she’s really coming together!

Photos from Black Kat Luck's post 30/06/2023

Of all of the altered teacups I have made I’ve only ever kept two for myself, and I’m fighting the urge to make this little one the third. The sweet little snail is just so charming, I would share my tea with him any day!

! Adding the irises to the eyes and giving her eyebrows make her look far less creepy

Although I haven’t posted much lately, I’ve been hard at work on all sorts of lovely whimsies. Currently I’m working on painting the 15 new altered vintage tea cups that I embellished last week with sculpted elements. Here’s the first few finished teacups, looking sweet with a little Zebra Haworthia sitting pretty in a teacup.

Yesterday was spent bringing these cali-kois to life, and the little sparkle in their eyes is making me smile

Finished!

WIP Wednesday! This one is turning out to be far more complex than I originally anticipated, but it’s really starting to come together. I hope to have it finished & have prints available soon!

Photos from Black Kat Luck's post 22/02/2023

I spent quite a bit of time tweaking this one to get it just right… once I added details to the moon it finally felt finished. I’m going to enjoy having this one up on my wall until someone whisks it away to its new home 🌙 ❤️

I’m really happy with how the finished Jackalope looks. Now I get to dive into the lore behind jackalopes to flesh out the story that goes with it!

It’s wip Wednesday! I’ve been wanting to make a Jackalope piece for quite some time, and I’m really enjoying bringing this creature to life.

This sweet little original watercolor, “Neighborhood Gossip” looks so cute when it’s sitting pretty between two new mushroom teacups. This trio will be at the HBG Flea this Saturday if you want to make them your own 🍄❤️

I’m off to York, PA to take part in what’s going to be an amazing event! Stop by if you’re in the area and say hello!

02/12/2022

I’m pleased to say that after quite a bit of finessing, the Starry-Eyed Dreamer prints are finally available!

30/11/2022

I’m going through all of my prints and swapping out the stories on the back with the new format I have for them and honestly it’s sort of amazing to see how this simple change really makes the story pop!

Photos from Black Kat Luck's post 25/11/2022

I’ve really been inspired by a classic woodland aesthetic lately, I think it has everything to do with the coziness that comes with the change of weather from fall to winter. To that end, I’ve made this delightful little joyriding gnome, and a few altered teacups with sprouting mushrooms. ❤️🍄🌿

I began this series last year with the intention of using these pieces as the illustrations for the calendar I put together every year and then … life happened. This project went on the back burner and that burner got turned off.

Now that it’s October I pulled them back out to finish the last six pieces for my 2023 calendar. Here’s no. 7 out of 12: The firefly. It’s somewhat simple but I love it and it was exactly the right piece to pick up and dive back into this project with.

This one is approximately 3”x5”, painted in watercolor and sitting pretty in a vintage frame. I’m really going to enjoy having this little guy around until he finds his new home
