It’s a Gold Album for Dead Kennedys!

43 years after its release on September 2, 1980, “Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables” has finally been certified Gold (yesterday, the 15th), by the RIAA! This is possibly the most influential independent album in American punk rock history, and this is long overdue.

This is DKs second Gold Album, after “Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death,” awarded in 2007.

This took years of work to put together, and we are honored to have had DKs on Manifesto for the past 22 years!

Today Marks The 52nd Anniversary of Funkadelic's 3rd Album "Maggot Brain" originally Released on July 12, 1971 on by Westbound Records.

Maggot Brain is the third studio album by the American funk rock band Funkadelic, released by Westbound Records in July 1971.

Westbound Records released Maggot Brain in July 1971. It peaked at number 108 on Billboard's US pop chart while missing the UK chart, and also reached the top 20 of the Billboard R&B charts.

The album was produced by band leader George Clinton and recorded at United Sound Systems in Detroit during late 1970 and early 1971.

After the album was released, the band effectively disbanded drummer Tiki Fulwood was fired due to drug use; guitarist Tawl Ross reportedly got into an "acid eating contest, then snorting some raw speed, before completely flipping out" and has not performed since; bassist Billy Nelson quit over a money dispute with Clinton. Subsequently, only Clinton, Hazel, and keyboardist Bernie Worrell remained from the original Funkadelic lineup.

A 2005 reissue included three bonus tracks, among them an alternate mix of "Maggot Brain" featuring the full-band performance.

The album is perhaps best known for its 10-minute title track, an improvisation performed by guitarist Eddie Hazel.

Pitchfork named it the 17th best album of the 1970s.

In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked Maggot Brain the 136th greatest album of all time in its updated list.

1. Maggot Brain 10:10
2. Can You Get To That 2:45
3. Hit It And Quit It 3:44
4. You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks 3:29
4. Super Stupid 3:53
5. Back In Our Minds 2:35
6. Wars Of Armageddon 9:28

Veruca Salt’s Louise Post comes home with her debut solo record, Sleepwalker - Chicago Reader While some tracks could pass as Veruca Salt b-sides, Louise Post's solo debut pushes the stylistic needle with a more mature sound.

Hey y’all, guess what?! God, Forgive These Bastards is over a decade old! Both the record and the book have been out of print for a while, but thanks to our pals over at Get Better Records and Asian Man Records, we’ve got a 10th anniversary DOUBLE LP coming out!

The first disc is the original album, and the second disc is an audio documentary called “The Making of Henry Turner”, which includes unreleased b-sides from the album that didn’t make the cut, interviews with band members, and practice demos from when we were writing the album in the basement.

So yeah! You will be able to get both the vinyl and the book again without paying hundreds of dollars on eBay! So that’s cool. This pressing is relatively small, which means it’ll definitely sell out at some point…so scoop em up while you can! (Sorry that we can’t afford to do larger pressings, this s**t is EXPENSIVE to put together for us DIY folks).

If you’re unfamiliar with it, “God, Forgive These Bastards” is an album and book about the life of a failed baseball player named Henry Turner. The book and the album are intended to be complimentary parts of the story, with each one filling in loose ends of the story that are mentioned by the other. So, if you’ve ever wondered how certain songs fit into Henry’s life, you can now pick up a copy of the long out-of-print book and find out! Hot damn! Holy guacamole! Sweet Jesus!

This puppy comes out on September 22nd!

But you can preorder it now, if ya wanna be sure you get one before it sells out!

Thanks Get Better and Asian Man, we appreciate you!!
