Only 360 days until the PPC 2025!!

So, to Joe’s chagrin, Paul completed his Three-peat in epic fashion. With no time on the clock, Paul hooked a fish that barely made the cut-off for “keeper” status and beat Joe by EIGHT OUNCES, denying Joe his Cinderella story. From 71 and sunny yesterday to 51 with a constant rain today made for a challenging final round for the PPC 2024. All fisherman could net no more than 3 fish, except for Paul who bagged 5 and the belt in turn. No pictures of fish today, because the PPC is much more about this misfit group of lifelong friends than it is about the actual fish and who wins or loses (unless, of course, I don’t come in last . . . Again! Or perchance regain my old form). Thank you faithful followers for taking this journey with us and, to my family, I apologize and will try to be better. The PPC 2025 (the 20th Annual PPC) is only 361 days away. I’ll be back!!

RAINY & COLD on Lake Champlain. But the fish are already wet, so hoping for the best. Day 4 begins.

A slow day fishing but Epic day in PPC history . . . Joey D takes the lead!! Can he hold it and take the belt!? Final Round on Lake Champlain tomorrow.

Day 2 is in the books. Caught multiple species, including Pike, Trout, Perch and even got a close up look at a Tiger Muskie and a snake out for a swim but only bass count and Paul & Joe crushed it today. Joe won the day but Paul is now in pole position going into tomorrow and Day 3 at Paradox Lake.

Only results for today on Lake Champlain. Photos and 2 day totals to follow, after dinner.

1. Steve - 13 pounds, 11 ounces
2.Paul - 10 pounds, 10 ounces
3. Craig - 8 pounds, 2 ounces
4. Joe - 7 pounds, 12 ounces

Day 1 is complete. Putts Pond was tough fishing in constantly changing weather and gusts of up to 30 mph. Official numbers have not yet been calculated but it appears Steve has the early lead. Stay tuned for the official update later.

A three hour recon mission. For last year’s first and last place finishers. Paul (not surprisingly) outfished your author, boating 8 bass to my 3 but all were quality fish. Tomorrow is the official practice round for all 5 fisherman.

28/04/2024

4 Days until day 1 of the PPC 2024.

The early odds are in but depending on injury and health updates, as well as weather and water temperature changes, these odds will be adjusted appropriately.
Paul: 3 to 1 (3-peat??)
Jim: 8 to 1. (Can he escape Paul’s shadow?)
Steve: 11 to 1 (proven to be a solid middle tier fisherman but he has performed in the colder weather)
Joe: 13 to 1 (was last year a fluke?)
Craig: 22 to 1 (Climbing those steps from Joe’s basement to Paul’s Penthouse . . . Can it be done in a single year? We all know how Craig hates stairs)

The wrap-up of the PPC 2023:

Paul led from day 1 and never faltered. Using a single lure (the 110 jerk-bait) he hauled in 41 fish, the top 20 had a combined weight of over 54 pounds. Joe, in a four day blitz, caught more fish and more quality fish then he had in the previous six years combined, with 41 fish and a total weight of over 48 pounds for his top catches. Jim did well enough to win in many of our past contests but his 40 pounds put him in a distant and disappointing 3rd place. The true battle this year was to stay out of “Joe’s Basement” and the bitter stench of failure that lingers there. Only SEVEN OUNCES separated 4th and 5th place (or as Jim enjoyed pointing out, 4th place and LAST). Perhaps appropriately, the irresponsible moron who couldn’t get out of his own head, who caught only one fish on day 1, snapped two of his three rods on day 2, dumped his tackle box in Lake Champlain (in 46 feet of water, while traveling about 33 mph) on day 3 and knocked his pole in the water on Lake George in the final round (that one was recovered), ended up coming up short by only a single fish of climbing out of that basement. Even an old fella with a few slipped discs, who spent some time on the IR during this trip, outfished him.

Every trip with this ragtag bunch of degenerates is a successful trip (but last place still sucks).

PPC 2024 is only 360 days away!!!

I’ll do a write-up later on. I have included a photo of me only to show that I smiled AND caught a fish at least once this trip. Congrats to Paul, the repeating Champion and Joe, our most improved angler.

Day 3 was a banner day for all. There was very little opportunity for any big moves on the leader board with all fishermen catching a full bag limit of 5 fish. Craig and Steve got things in gear but a little too late to challenge the top players, and instead they are locked in a battle to avoid the last place finish. Jim is most likely set at third but has a chance of moving up, or even down, on the board depending on how he and the others fare tomorrow on the grand-daddy of vacation lakes, Lake George. Joe and Paul will fish together tomorrow, as is PPC tradition, as the top two anglers going into the final day. Stay tuned.
