Sooo… 2nd time with my new camera. I’m much happier with my images this time. Marco at Henry’s in Bayer’s Lake definitely gave me some great advice and helped set me up for better success with my camera. Here’s the first few edits that I’ve had time to complete since. More to follow as I get them done.

Titan’s MMA in Bayer’s Lake is where my daughter trains, so it’s easy to just take my camera with me for their training sessions. In the near future I will be stopping by some other boxing clubs when I have time to do some photos for other boxers. The fist club on my list to visit next is HubTown Boxing club. I will be contacting the coaches there shortly to set this up. If there are any clubs with events coming up soon, I’m definitely game for that unless I’m in bed with Covid again. I was so disappointed when that happened to me not long ago. Unfortunately I had to cancel as I could barley get out of bed. I wanted to be there for the boxers so bad!! If there are any matches coming up that the coaches would like me attend, please don’t hesitate to each out and I’ll do my best. After all, my new camera was bought specifically so that I could keep doing photos for the boxers. The sensor is starting to go in my old one.

Boxers, coaches, and relatives, please feel free to save these images for personal use from my page. High resolution images without watermarks are available for purchase if interested.

Here’s my edits from 17 Oct. Titan’s MMA boxing training session. I was trying out a new camera, a Canon 5D Mark IV that I just bought for my sports photography. These photos are from the first time I ever used it.

I have never been so frustrated behind the lens!! It’s way more advanced than my 5D Mark II is, and there’s a lot of new stuff to learn about it. It has a completely different focusing system than I’m used to. That threw me off big time! Thankfully Marco at Henry’s in Bayer’s Lake gave me A LOT of help the other day when I stopped in. I was beyond frustrated with this new focusing system. He was very patient helping this girl learn some new tricks. I really appreciate the help he gave me. I’m going to take that new knowledge with me when I get back to Titans soon. For now, here’s the edits that I was able to do from my first go at the Mark IV.

Coaches, parents and boxers, please feel free to save and share these images on your social media platforms.

Photographer/tech chat for those interested:😊

I’m so excited, yet so disappointed. I’m supposed to be ringside right now capturing some memories for the boxers. Instead, I’m stuck at home fighting Covid. 🤬 Making this even worse is that I just got a new camera for doing my boxing photography!! It finally arrived in the mail yesterday. 🎉

The sensor started going in my good camera and every so often a file would go corrupt on me. After chatting with hubby, we decided that I should look for a replacement, especially if I want to keep doing photos for the kids. I decided to get another Canon as I already have several excellent lenses to use with it. Plus getting just the body helped keep costs down a bit.

I settled on the Canon 5D Mark IV. It has a resolution of 30MP, can shoot 7 frames a second, has 61 auto focus points and can do 4K video as well. My old one is 21MP, shoots 4 frames a second, has 15 auto focus points, and shoots regular video. I’m very happy with my upgrade!! I can’t wait to see what I can do with it!!🥳

Expect to see me show up at a club or two once I’m feeling better. 😃

Hello everyone. I wish I was posting about photographing the fights this weekend, but unfortunately I won’t be able to make it. Covid had other plans for me. It has me down for the count, and fighting to get back up. Hopefully I will get to an event soon and get some new photos for the boxers. I was so excited for this weekend but I don’t want to pass this 💩 around. I want to wish all the boxers good luck with their matches. Albion Stong! Albion Proud!💕🥊 💕

Titan’s Boxing training session on 05-10-2023. Here’s a few of the photo’s from last week’s Thursday night training session. I had a great time doing them. Great effort put out by the boxers!

I hope you all enjoy saving and sharing these images. Coaches, parents and boxers, please feel free to save and share these images for your personal use from my page. High resolution photos with no copyright on them are available for purchase if anyone is interested. The money is going towards the purchase of a new Canon 5D Mark IV camera.

Some photographer chat below for those interested:

I’m still adjusting settings, so some aren’t as sharp as I would like. One of the main reasons I bought the Canon 1D Mark II taking these photos is, it has a frame rate of 8 shots per second. My other camera, a Canon 5D Mark II only has a fame rate of 4 shots per second. It definitely gives me more opportunity to get that perfect glove meets face shot however! Unfortunately it’s more complicated than I like for enjoyment of a hobby.

Due to the challenges of using this older camera… and there are many🤬🤬🤬, I’ve decided to take the plunge and get a new camera. On top of those challenges , the sensor is going in my Canon 5D MarkII. That’s ready to go at any time. The last thing I want to have happen is to be taking photos for the boxers and have equipment issues. After a bit of debate I went with a Canon 5D Mark IV. I’m really hoping that it gets here before the Albion fights this Saturday. It will help me capture some great shots for the boxers!! I’m excited to go do the photography for their event. 💕🥊💕

Here’s a few of the edits I was able to do from Titans training session last Saturday. I’m playing around with a new to me camera. Just trying to push it’s limits to see what it can do. Unfortunately due to that, not as many tuned out to my standards for editing. I want to know exactly what it can do before I take it to the Albion Boxing Club’s event. That’s coming up on October 13th. It’s supposed to still be a good workhorse for sport’s photography. It can do more fames per second than my other camera, allowing me more chances to get that perfect squishy face as I like to call them. Nothing better than seeing that glove score the winning point as it takes your opponent down! Those are the memories that I want to capture fo the kids. I’ll be back at Titans tonight to work on my camera settings. Live and lean as they say! Have a great day everyone!

Just a note for anyone looking for new edits from the Titans training session on Tuesday night. I am heading out now for a retreat for a few days. I will work on the edits early next week and then post them as soon as I complete them. Have a great long weekend everyone! ❤️🥊❤️

Where it all started…. Pictou County’s first female amateur boxer!!
One extremely headstrong teen with an attitude that could choke a horse, that was determined to show people that girls belong in the ring too. I have to thank one person especially for this. My head coach at the time, Jim Worthen. He took a chance on me way back then (early 90’s) and I will be forever grateful for that. He changed my life for the better and helped keep me on the right track when things got tough through my teen years. If you were caught fighting at school or into drugs and alcohol, you weren’t allowed to compete. It was as simple as that. I wanted in that ring!! Albion strong! Albion proud!! ❤️🥊❤️

He even let me come back to train before I left for boot camp to become a Canadian Air Force Medic. I was so thankful for that opportunity. Boxing has helped set me up for so many great things, and has helped give me the determination and discipline needed to survive in this ever changing world.

Unfortunately due to service injuries I’m not able to box anymore or continue with my career. Now I get my fix by doing photography for the boxers. There’s nothing better than being ringside!!! I’m looking forward to capturing some great moments for you and your boxers Albion strong!! Albion proud!! ❤️🥊❤️

See you at Albion Boxing Club’s event on October 14th!

If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Coaches I would love to hear about your events. If I’m able to, I would love to attend your events as well.

Hello everyone! I hope you all have been enjoying the pictures that I’ve posted. I have gone through all the photos now and am finished editing for this event.

* If any parents have seen less than 10 edits of their boxer, please send me a direct message and we will together get that sorted out. Before you contact me, please make sure you check all 10 batches/posts that I have posted. They are all numbered.

For those wanting high resolution files of their boxers photos, they are $5 each or 3 for $10. They will be emailed to you.

These edits are all sized to be printed as 5x7’s. Printing in other sizes will cause parts of the photo to be cut off and change the look of the photo. When you are requesting the high resolution file, please let me know the Batch number, photo number as well as the size you want to print it in. I will go back in and re-edit the file so that it’s sized properly for you as I want the photo to look the best that it can when you print it.

The other option is a memory stick with all the high resolution files on it. There will be just over 400 5”x7” high resolution photos on it. They are $75 each and includes mailing it to you. This is a good option if the club would like to purchase one to be shared with their own boxers. I don’t mind the club sharing with their boxers and parents if anyone wishes to do so. I’m not looking to get rich, just replace gear as needed so that I can keep doing this for the boxers.

**Photos on the page will always be free for you to save, share and enjoy. I will do the same for each event that I am able to do. Have a great day!

Here’s the situation…. First of all, I had an absolutely fantastic time photographing your boxers! I hope I can do it again soon. I would love to come back!!

Secondly, please don’t worry if you haven’t seen many photos of your boxer, or for that matter, none at all. I promise you I definitely have some. I nearly crapped my pants when I started downloading them and seen the sheer number of photos that I took. When you have your camera set to rapidfire, they add up quickly. Unfortunately due to the fast pace of the event, I was changing memory cards rapidly, and just firing the full card in my camera bag so that I could get back up there and keep shooting. That’s one of the reasons why the fights aren’t in order. The other reason is because memory cards got switched between between different camera bodies at different times that night. My sincerest apologies for this hiccup.

Thirdly, I’m going to be dead honest with you. I have taken more than 2000 photos that night. This is the reason why I’m asking for a bit of patience while I’m trying to sort through and get the edits done. I promise you that every spare minute I have I am editing those photos. This is also just a hobby and not my full time job. I did this event completely free of charge. The photos I have posted so far have taken me a couple of days and more than 20 hours of work. I’m doing my absolute best to crank out the edits as fast as I can for the boxers.

Finally, I’m an amateur photographer. I have lots of gear to have fun with as you could see, but I’m not a professional. I have done other types of photography, such as landscape and portrait photography. Sports photography, however is new to me. It’s a totally different beast than the others. This is only the third event that I have ever attended as a sports photographer.

That being said, I am still learning. Due to this factor, there will be a difference in the number of photos posted for each fight. I’m dealing with ropes and referees zipping around that I have to avoid to get a good shot. In many shots, faces got obscured by the ropes sometimes, other times backs were turned and I couldn’t even see the other boxer. These types of photos won’t get edited. I want to spend my time on the best ones that I was able to get for you.

If you haven’t seen any photos of your boxer at all by the end of the week, please contact me. I do have photos of every fight.

Batch 5 Albion 35th Anniversary Fights. Again my apologies for the fights not being in order. I have 5 memory cards full of fights to sort through and used three different camera bodies throughout the night. Please be patient if you don't see many pictures, or any at all of your boxer yet. They are just on a card that I still have to edit. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I hope you enjoy the edits.

I had a fantastic time this weekend photographing the Albion Boxing Clubs Fights in Trenton!! Wowzers!! Those boxers gave it everything they had. Some left absolutely every last piece of themselves on the mat. What an unbelievable effort put out by the boxers! I have to say that I kind of have a soft spot for the Albion boxers. Rightly so being their first ever female! That was a while ago!! Lol! So proud of the effort put forth by all the other boxers as well. It takes courage to step into that ring regardless of how many times it has been.

Anyway, here is the first batch of edits. My apologies as they are in no particular order. Working with different cameras makes it hell for me to group the fights together easily. However it gives me an advantage as to the variety of shots that I can get. I also filled 5 memory cards and they were switched between three different camera bodies. Lets just say that there's been a few lessons learned from this event.

Please have patience if you don't see photos of your boxer showing up right away. I was shocked when I started to download the cards at the sheer number of photos I took. I promise you that there's definitely photos there of your boxer. Numbers will vary per boxer, depending on the settings that I had set in the cameras. I'm still learning my way with boxing photography. It's definitely one of the more challenging sports to photograph. I can't wait to get some more experience.

I would love to come back another time and do it all over again for the kids! I'm going to have to start training before it so that I can walk the day after the event. Lol! I was not prepared to do squats and half squats for hours straight, match after match trying to shoot through, and below the ropes. By the end of the night I felt like I could barley stand up. I felt like I might vomit the last four matches and prayed I didn't pass out from exhaustion the last two. But like I said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat for them. Just need a little training! LOL!!

Since Albion did so much for me, this is just my way of saying thank you for everything! I love doing this for the boxers. Stay tuned over the next several days as I have an unbelievable amount of photos to go through. Here's the first 80 edits that Facebook would let me post. I hope you all enjoy the photos.

Makes sense. Hopefully people will listen.

There is a provincewide ban on open fires because of dry conditions. The ban also applies to fires in provincial parks and private campgrounds and is in effect until further notice.

A reminder that consumer fireworks are not permitted when open fires are not permitted.

For the latest information on the fires in Tantallon and Hammonds Plains areas, including information on comfort centres, go to https://www.halifax.ca/fire-police/fire/emergency-management/fires-tantallon-hammonds-plains .

It’s finally here!! Fight night tonight at Trenton rink. Doors open at 6:00, fights start at 7:00. Gear has been triple checked and harness adjusted so I can easily carry two cameras on me tonight. Can’t wait to see what kind of shots I get having two different cameras and different types of lenses to play with. I actually have three cameras packed but one is a backup. Let the shooting begin!! 🥊 🍀 📸 I

Had some fun recently for a couple of days doing some photos at Titans Martial Arts and Fitness. My daughter decided that she wanted try boxing several months ago. I looked around and was really happy to find this club so close to home. What I didn't realize at the time was the level of coaching she was about to receive at Titans. It continues to impress me with every session that we attend. My standards for coaching are extremely high, especially after being Albion Boxing Club's first female amateur boxer, having Jim Worthen as my head coach. He was a no nonsense coach who didn't allow horsing around. He expected a lot out of us, as he worked just as hard training us. Peter at Titans gives his boxers that same level of coaching. He works on both their technical game as well as their mental game. He expects a lot but gives a lot in return. I'm extremely happy to have my daughter training at Titan's. I can't wait to see how far Maddy can go with that level of training!

I want to thank Peter at Titans very much for giving me permission to take photos in the club. It was great preparation for the Albion Boxing Club's fights coming this weekend at Trenton rink. I can't wait to shoot some matches!!

Since I can't get in the ring anymore myself, I love to take photos for the boxers. These photos are done at no charge to the boxers. My payment for these are seeing the smiles on the boxers faces when they see a great shot of them landing a punch on their opponent. This is my way of giving back to a sport that did so much for me. Good luck everyone!!

So far I have completed over 350 edits of this event to give to Albion. I hope you have enjoyed the photos that I have posted so far. There are more in the works if you haven't seen any of your boxer so far. Have a great week everyone!

16/12/2019

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. I just want to apologize for the delay in the completion of the Albion November event photos. This weekend my Grandmother found her wings and showed me the meaning of true love. It has been a rough few months while we raced to show her just how fiercely we loved her, and tried to soak in as much of her as we could. This is a woman who if she had of been a millionaire, would be broke from feeding all of Thorburn that might have had a hungry belly. Oh, and every stray dog that has traveled through her yard has at one point in time gotten one of her famous cinnamon rolls from her. Her Sunday dinners were the best and pretty much for all the major holidays there was always a get together at Nan's. Nannie loved to feed everyone! Lol! Family and close friends were what mattered most to Nan. When I was in boxing and had a bout to get ready for, I always had to go out to her house in the morning and get her to french braid my hair. She was the only one in the family that knew how to do it. I always tried my best to make her proud. She was an amazing lady and such a amazing influence on my life. I hope I can be at least a fraction of the gentle and loving woman that she was. I really appreciate your patience with me during this time. I will do my best to make some awesome memories for your boxers as soon as I can.

10/12/2019

Good evening everyone! I hope everyone is doing good. I just want to apologize for dropping off into the darkness. The photos are in the works for the Albion card in November. We have had a few family issues happen and for me family comes first. I have been slowly working on them when I can. I will post a sample of some of them soon.

I have to say that I am learning some valuable lessons! Boy was that lighting a challenge!!! As well I was playing with a few camera settings to see what I could achieve. Some turned out really awesome, and some turned out pretty good. Of course the photographer is their own worst critic! Lol! I hope you enjoy them when I get them posted. I have over 100 edits done already and there are so many more that I want to do. All these photos and more will be available through the Albion boxing club. They will have both the watermarked files and the clear images for distribution. Thanks and have a great day!
