Janine van Wyk is set to learn her fate soon...

Coach Desiree Ellis will announce the Banyana Banyana squad to face Burkina Faso in a 2024 WAFCON qualifier in the coming days.

If called up and she plays, Van Wyk would match or even set a new Africa’s all-time record for the most capped player, both males and females.

The record holder is Egyptian legend Ahmed Hassan with 184 caps – Van Wyk is currently on 183 caps.

Banyana will face Burkina Faso on 30 November and on 4 December in Tshwane.

Van Wyk couldn't match the record against DR Congo in Kinshasa last month despite Ellis telling the veteran defender to warm up and a disappointed Van Wyk then left the team camp before the second-leg clash in Soweto.

"I wanted to make the sub to bring Janine on against DRC, so she can equal the record. But I didn't have my stopwatch, so I didn't realize how much time was left. When the final whistle blew, I went over to her and apologized," Ellis told Thabiso Mosia.

RE: Hlongwane-Pirates rumours

Bongokuhle Hlongwane's current contract with Minnesota United ends in December 2024, not December 2023.
