Treasured Teddies ...from your clothes that hold memories. I’ll make you a Memory Teddy...from bab

26/04/2023

Thank you so much to all of my customers to date…it has been my privilege to make your Memory Teddies and other items.

I am taking a sabatical from the sewing machine for 6 months while I walk from Home to Rome. Please do check out my page and follow my journey as I go…I leave in early May.

This is a solo adventure but I will have friends join me for a wee walk at various points along the 2000 mile trek!

This is not a sponsored walk per se, but I have set up two Justgiving Pages for Dementia UK and Mary’s Meals so that if anyone wants to donate to these good causes they can. The links are on my FB page.

Such a privilege to be asked by Santa to make these gifts to help two children get comfort when thinking of their cherished Granny. 💕

Every single Teddy is unique and I am privileged that customers trust me with their precious clothes. I was trusted with even more this time...

I made a wee pouch to hold some of the ashes of a lost loved one in this Teddy.

The recipient of this Teddy may not have it yet so I’m keeping the rest of the photos til later 🤫

There’s no right or wrong to the number of different items used to make up a Teddy.

This school uniform one is just two skirts but it’s just as effective as the Teddies with up to 10 different colours and patterns. I was pleased that the pleats stayed in on the tummy.

Every Teddy is unique....even if I make two from the same items I mix them up and they look so different.

What do you think?

Baby Teddy Keepsakes are not just for when the child is a baby...if you’ve held onto that bag of favourite clothes, why not use them to create a lovely 21st Birthday gift?

This lovely Teddy was made for just that reason and was very well received💕

Each bear is fully lined and is around 15” high.

Who said they’d like an Alpaca Keepsake?!

Well, I made this little lady “Flowerpaca” and she is currently working hard keeping an eye on her crew - from the top deck of The YesBus! There are 7 in the Alpaddock at The Big Sky Hideaway ...3 Mummas, 3 Cria’s and a new pregnant Mumma has just arrived!

PS I do also recommend you check out where this is and consider it for your next camping and glamping adventure!

School Memory Teddies.

Do you know a young person moving up to Secondary School or leaving school this summer? Why not capture the memories of those years in a Teddy or Dog made out of their uniform.

It’s quite possible that it’s the parents who want to have the Keepsake - that’s fine, this pair of characters were made from one pupils uniform!

Customer feedback is ALWAYS great to receive....if you buy anything from a small business, please do send a wee word of feedback, it means so much.

“OMG....Teddy arrived today and I absolutely love him! He is gorgeous - I can’t wait to show my friends!”

“You are so clever and the way you used the skirt pleats is simply wonderful. Thank you so much Ged xx”

This Teddy was made from a school uniform before moving up to High School. I’m not sure whether the Keepsake Teddy is for Mum or daughter🤣💕

“Lockdown Uniform” and “New Products”

Memories come in all shapes and sizes. One day we will all look back on this period and each of us will have so many stories, images - and outfits - that remind us of it.

What has been your Lockdown Uniform?

I cannot wait to show you my new products, both have been created from a young Dad’s Lockdown Uniform. He and his family wanted to cherish their fun memories of him attending important virtual work meetings - wearing a “proper shirt” and his PJ trousers🤣

How many of you did something similar?! Let me know if you would like me to capture those memories in a handmade Memory creation.

** pin cushion is yet another fab hand-me-down from Aunt Cissie 💕

“The ears have ears!”

How cute does this pair of twin brother Teddies look?!

Mummy and Daddy wanted a memento of their boys early days. They gathered up their favourite “teeny” baby grows and asked for a pair of Memory Bears!

When Mum collected them (having held off seeing any photos in advance) there were instant memories of what the boys wore as they left hospital😍

I am privileged to be trusted with such precious items but I really love seeing the effect the Bears have on receipt!

I have a logo!!!

My gorgeous and talented friend Emma surprised me with a selection of ideas she had created for my logo! All of them were fantastic but Em and I narrowed our choice down to 5. I then enlisted the help of some friends to choose their favourite.

The winner was........🥁🥁

What do you think?

Thank you so much Emma (and the judges!) x

This “Lady” went home yesterday. I was a little nervous with only 3 pieces to work from but I hope you agree that the textures of the wool really brought out the character. The pocket is a little loose but that just reflects how well loved and worn the cardigan clearly was.

Christmas Gift Ideas!

I have been adding to my Teddies with some items that might make ideal Christmas gifts...

1. Reuseable wipes. Double hemmed towelling and soft cotton. Could be used as face wipes, makeup removal or baby wipes! Packs of 5.

Soft fleece with ribbons (different colours and textures) round the edges. Double hemmed and ribbons sewn 3 times for security. 3 sizes, many uses!

3. Memory Teddies
Fully lined so different materials can be mixed. You can get gift vouchers so that the recipient can choose their treasured clothing when it suits them to have a Teddy made.

Are you a parent with a bag of clothes from when your baby was teeny? I imagine they hold lovely memories, but how often do you look at the clothes to trigger the smiles?

Maybe I have a solution?

I can make you a Memory Teddy....a lovely keepsake of those treasured times. Teddy can sit on top of the drawers rather than the memories hiding inside one of them?

In true Blue Peter style, “here’s one I made earlier”🥰

Bill and Ben

These guys “lodged” at my house for a few weeks because Postman Pat held onto their braces and noses for a while🤷‍♀️

I felt like I got to know them, hence giving them each a name!

They were made from a special outfit of jumper, shirt, socks and braces - and I think they have come up just lovely? What do you think?

Making a Memory Teddy ... in just 30 seconds!

If only that was the case 🤣

I usually spend 4.5-5 hours from start to finish on each Teddy.

There are 25 pieces and of course this is doubled because each piece needs to be lined.

The lining is ironed on before cutting and then the sewing begins. 300g of stuffing is inserted before final closure, eyes and muzzle - all sewn on by hand.

Photos from Geddy Makes's post 04/10/2020

The scissors behind every Memory Teddy.

I have no idea how old these scissors are, but I know that they have been involved in so many incredible makes, long before I ever got them. The worn paint in the handles wasn’t from my use!

These scissors belonged to my Aunt Cissie, my Dads big sister. Cissie was an incredible Tailoress, I’d go as far as to say a “seamstress genius”. Growing up, we (my family and cousins) were all very well dressed thanks to Aunt Cissie’s handiwork. The clothes lasted so many hand-me-downs that we could’ve accidentally been a reuse/recycle showcase.

She loved her work and happily carried on working in the clothing factories in Glasgow well into her 70’s - she told me she just kept saying she was 56 and the bosses believed her🤣

Cissie was a fiercely independent woman and her feminism was way ahead of her time. She bought her own flat in the 1950s, I can only imagine the conversation with her bank manager at that time😆 I wonder how many single women had their own mortgages back then?

She lived in that flat until the night before she died, aged 92...that final overnight was her first ever in hospital! I’m sure her independent stubbornness thought “I’m having no more of this, thanks!”

I really do appreciate the skills and tips I learned from Aunt Cissie, but I know I could’ve been so much better if only I had listened instead of being a “bored teenager”. Most days I think of her when I stumble across another wee mistake and I soon have a solution, so I’m still learning now - maybe through the scissors💕

Memory Teddies are a fantastic keepsake, especially when they hold so many treasured memories.

You could create that lovely feeling for someone you love by gifting them a voucher towards the cost of a Teddy. The recipient can use the voucher at a time that suits them, when they are ready to choose and send the clothes to me.

The cost of a Teddy is £45 plus p&p, but the voucher can be anything from £10.

“There are no words”

Customer photos and feedback are always appreciated! This pair were made from a selection of shirts, T-shirt’s and pj trousers. Each item holds a special memory and story and the customer was nervous about me cutting them up.

I am aware of the immense trust that is placed on me so it is great to see the delight when I return the Teddies.

The tears that these Bears caused were bitter-sweet but I’m told that they will be much loved forever.

Here he is!

This Teddy was commissioned as a gift and I was apprehensive about how he would turn out with just one item of clothing.

As it happens, the simple step of turning it inside out gave so much lovely character and texture to his features.

I recreated the typical hoodie pockets at an angle on his feet - these could hold a photo or special item maybe.

The main request was for the Wee Mind thistle logo to be shown and this provided the inspiration for the muzzle colour.

I know that the recipient loves him and I hope you like him too.

Who could you gift a Memory Teddy to? Such a lovely keepsake.

Photos from Geddy Makes's post 10/09/2020

Just finished!

I cannot wait to show you how this Teddy turned out!

I was a bit apprehensive because it was just one item and I wasn’t sure how the single colour would look.

Wait til you see what I did to inject some texture and character to him, still only using this one hoodie.

The story behind “Geddy Makes”

My friend Tara included me in her ace Lockdown Tales series - short stories of how we managed lockdown around the world.

All the M’s ‘There are three main words I can sum lockdown up in-Mum, masks and memory teddies.’ Ged laughs. Her Glaswegian accent is a treat to listen to, and I lean nearer to the screen. ‘M…
