Elizabeth Kearnan Doula Services
Trained Postpartum Doula, offering physical, emotional, and informational support to new families. Hello! I’m Elizabeth, but informally, everyone calls me Beth.
My journey as a doula began when I got pregnant with my first child; I completely fell in love with the entire process of pregnancy, birth and the newborn stage. I was surprised to find that it was not as easy – or natural! – as I’d always imagined it to be. I am passionate about this stage of life, and I feel so lucky to be able to offer support, encouragement, and a gentle transition through suc

Why These 5 Myths About Motherhood Hurt Everyone Some make mothers feel like failures; others excuse abuse.
Tiger in the Tree hold
Actually it really should be leopard in the tree as although tigers can climb trees, you're more likely to find a leopard doing this!
Anyway I digress!
This is a fantastic position for calming a fractious baby. Particularly in those annoying evening "witching hours" when the b**b stops working. You can do all sorts of rocking and swaying, and my last baby actually preferred it if I spun around quite rapidly.
It's also a gentle way of winding your baby. And if they are lying on your left arm, they are less likely to sick up as the stomach's exit into the oesophagus will be pointing upwards. (Wonky winding)
It is a very safe way of carrying your baby with one hand if you have to hold something in the other hand (you can move the bottom hand away and carry your shopping, car seat etc) as baby is leaning on your body and cannot roll off, and your hand is supporting them on their nappy.
Twin parents, you can also safely have one twin in each arm, which can be good if you have two fractious babies and one adult!
Diaper bank dates for those in need.
This is a wonderful practice here in our area!

Be kind to yourselves this holiday season. If you are pregnant or postpartum during the holidays, you’re even more prone to experiencing burnout. Self care is not selfish. Taking care of yourselves directly translates to taking care of your baby.
Take it easy, keep it simple, and be gentle to yourself.

Just a little snippet of things I do when I’m not working ♥️🍄🧶 What feeds your soul in your time off?
I’m tired of pregnant and postpartum moms being gagged by expectations.
Because you can be around so many people while pregnant or with a newborn in your arms and still feel more alone than ever.
And no one talks about this kind of emotional isolation.
Because if you feel like you can’t talk freely without being met with “but you’re so lucky” or “oh I had it so much worse,” or “I never felt that way about my body. I had a milkshake every day” than you start internalizing your feelings.
And those kinds of comments are prevalent, 𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 in these phases of motherhood.
Because these are "supposed to" be the seasons of immense joy and fulfillment because you're a mother or about to become one.
And how can a woman be depressed or anxious when she’s achieved her calling in life?
Cue the eye roll.
Because the truth is new moms aren’t always happy and strong.
They can be exhausted, anxious, overwhelmed, not connecting with their newborns, and stuck thinking they must be perfect.
And pregnant moms aren’t always happy with glowing skin and excitement about their changing bodies.
They can be stressed, afraid, uncomfortable, where standing for too long hurts and feel insecure about their bodies.
And if she’s having a hard time, she needs to be able to tell someone,
or she’ll never realize that she’s not alone,
or get the help she needs.
But way too often, she's silenced.
So, I’m tired of pregnant and postpartum moms being gagged by expectations.
And you should be, too.

Your work is valuable ♥️
I’ve been taking a bit of a hiatus now that it’s summer and my kids are at home. Not spending as much time on the business or on social media. These days are busy, chaotic, loud, but also precious, hilarious, and fleeting! September will be here before we know it back to the hustle and real life. And back to my precious mamas and babies ♥️
Family is #1! I hope everyone is having a great summer so far ☀️🌻👙🍉
So excited to receive my Postpartum Affirmation cards today! I look forward to sharing these with new mamas who may need a bit of a pick me up.

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there!
It was a meditate outside kind of morning over here. Hoping all my lovely mamas are taking a slice of the day to care for your body and mind today. We cannot be the world to our little people if we do not rest ourselves a little first.
Just in case anyone needs this reminder ♥️♥️
Most babies need to breastfeed at night to get enough milk in each 24 hour period.
Most mothers need milk removals during the night in order to maintain their milk production and avoid engorgment.
