Welcome to Jamia Millia Islamia - A Central University

International Summer School in New Delhi 2013

The International Summer School (ISS) is in session for six weeks as a part of the Jamia Millia Islamia (www.jmi.ac.in), one of India’s leading Central Universities in association with the Government of India’s Ministry of Tourism through its Incredible India campaign (www.incredibleindia.org). The ISS offers intensive undergraduate level courses and experiences that focus on India and reflect the country’s growing influence on the world stage.

The inaugural session for the ISS will be taking place this year from Sunday, June 16 to Friday, July 26, 2013. Its purpose is to promote international goodwill and cultural understanding among tomorrow’s world leaders as they learn about India and its role in the twenty first century.

An India-centric syllabus has been designed by the university with a focus on experiential learning. The syllabus comprises of the following course modules: (i) Indian Politics; (ii) the Indian Economy; (iii) Indian Sociology; (iv) Indian History; and (v) a Fieldwork module for which students would document their volunteer experience with Ritinjali, an NGO that has been involved in numerous community development initiatives across the country (this is something I managed to convince Jamia about based on your advice). All efforts would be made to facilitate the transfer of credits for students who are attending the programme from foreign institutions.

More details about the ISS is available at the website: www.issnewdelhi.in.

For further information, please contact the Director of ISS, Amjad Ali Khan, at: [email protected]

jmi.ac.in Jamia Millia Islamia derives its name from Urdu language in which Jamia means University and Millia means National. This University, born off the Indian National Movement and patriotic fervour, was founded in response to a call by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920 to boycott the Government-supported institutio...
