A great Tohunga passed away last week, Thurs 15th August 2024.
Billy Carruthers Tuhua, the Arikinui Taputapu Noa of Te wānanga tapunoa o Io Matangaro and founder of Ngā Tohunga ō Ngā Hau e Whā,

Te Kete Hauora A Io is the Qld peka (branch) of 'Nga Tohunga O Ngā Hau E Wha', one of many throughout Aotearoa & Australia.

Ngā Tohunga O Ngā Hau E Wha was founded in 2012, though Matua Billy was already mentoring a small group of people before then. The first initiation ceremony in 2012 was for 1 person... with many blessings along the way, the painful & the pleasant, we are now 220+, all because of his great love for Io, and his patience with us (lol). None of this would have begun, however, without the blessings of Matua Billy's elders to share their whānau('s) mātauranga tuku iho outside of their bloodline, he mihi nui, he mihi maioha ki a rātou katoa!

Matua Billy was our much loved & respected tohunga, pouako, mentor, and friend... many, many, many lives have been directly and indirectly blessed by his generosity of heart and knowledge... his legacy will live on and continue to thrive 💖

It is with a broken heart that we share the loss of our whangai pāpa & Tohunga. His name was Billy Carruthers Tuhua he was the Arikinui Taputapu Noa and founder of Ngā Tohunga ō Ngā Hau e Whā from Te Mahurehure. An expert in ancient Traditional Maori Medicine from the old whare wananga of Waima, Hokianga which incorperated Ma, Tika & pono.

Matua Billy was a well respected tohunga & had 250+ kaimirimiri & kairongoa in Aotearoa & Australia. He stood strong in his mana of Iotanga & will be sadly missed by many.

Matua Billy Tuhua leaves behind his husband Shaun, dog Dfar & 4 whangaia tamariki Eli, Tiana, Kyle, Makareti & many mokopuna including his namesake Piriwiritoa.

Our fallen totara tree now a pou & tupuna that watches over us , we will not be here doing our business Karanga Tapu - Io Healing Clinic if it wasn't for your love for Io & your tautoko.

We love you so dearly our Dad , Tohunga & Friend . You left us with many taonga and have blessed our lives in so many ways.

We have just came from 3 venues to help many people whom need help. Turangi last weekend and then Gisbourne & Wairoa in the weekend. We are here to help many who are trying to have a remedy for pain. Please bring a list of medications or any relevant t hospital papers. We can not help if you do not have this infromation available.
