I recently checked out MARÍA Restaurant, a new restaurant in downtown Edmonton. They offer Northern Mexican cuisine which I don’t think you can get anywhere else in the city! 🇲🇽
Everything I ate was delicious! I tried the:
• Ahi Tuna Coqueta - fresh & flavourful, eat it on the tortilla chips it comes with for some crunch.
• Parrillada - meats served on a hot sizzling skillet. You can either eat it off the skillet or build your own tacos because it comes with flour tortillas and garnishes.
• Northern Tres Leches Cake - moist and melts in your mouth.
I enjoyed all of the food & drinks that I tried! I would definitely recommend checking them out (you can also get take-out if you’re not comfortable with dining in).
The perfect Valentine’s drink! ❤️🍷
Broken Tine Orchard is a local Alberta farm that has their own Haskap orchard. They created their own fruit wine called Haskap Melomel which is a type of mead. It’s made using their locally produced white honey and Haskap berries. I found this fruit wine to be smooth and easy to drink. I’m not the biggest fan of strong wines so I enjoyed this! The alcohol taste is very subtle and it had notes of honey and berry that went well together.
I’d recommend trying this fruit wine out for your Valentine’s Day meal because it’s sweet and romantic! Read more about it in my latest blog post: https://mshangryfoodie.com/2021/02/broken-tine-orchard.html/

Shawarma Shack & Donair is a newish place in northside Edmonton that specializes in shawarma & donairs!
I had their donair poutine which actually had both chicken shawarma & donair meat. Topped with sweet sauce, you definitely get the best of both worlds and it was pretty filling. I also tried the chicken shawarma wrap which was on the lighter side. The chicken was very flavourful & the wrap had fries inside! I’m happy to see that there are new shawarma places popping up here and there. If you want to stay home, you can order delivery from them through different apps.
The winter igloos are back at Riverside Bistro at Courtyard by Marriott Edmonton Downtown! This was such a fun dining experience, especially since patio season is now over in Edmonton. Check out my blog for full details!

The Little Miss Mocha is a Filipino cakery that specializes in chiffon cakes using a 28 year-old family recipe!
I got try to try out their Family Box which comes with 4 small cakes: mocha, ube, matcha, and ensymada. The cakes were so delicious! They all come topped without a creamy buttercream. My favourite was the mocha with coffee buttercream. I love how they personalized one of them for me with my foodie name as well.
They also offer customizable cakes in the form of cake squares and full cakes (small/medium/large sizes). I would recommend the Family Box because you get to try a variety of flavours. You can order by visiting their page!
Wheat is an ingredient that you probably eat often but might not even be aware of! I’ve partnered up with Life's Simple Ingredient to create a list of some of my favourite take-out places where you can enjoy Canadian wheat. 🌾 Read the full post on my blog!

My favourite bubble tea place has Dalgona Coffee! The Alley - It's time for tea has 3 drinks from the Dalgona Coffee Series - Milk Tea, Matcha, and Deerioca. It’s perfect for coffee lovers, it adds a subtle coffee taste and makes the drink more creamy. You also don’t need to struggle with trying to make it yourself at home! It also does come with toppings but you just can’t see it in my photo.
I fell in love with stroopwafels when I went to Amsterdam last year. When I found out that you could get stroopwafel ice cream sandwiches here, I was very excited to try them! 😍
You can find these at Costco Wholesale Canada from Heavenfull. Each sandwich has 2 caramel stroopwafels with vanilla ice cream in between. There are 12 of them in 1 box. I like eating them when they have softened because you can taste the caramel in the stroopwafel more!
Sushi by Vinh is known for his sushi parties but obviously that can’t happen right now. Which is why he created ! 🍣 I was super excited when I heard about this because I still haven’t had a chance to try his sushi parties (hopefully in the near future).
For $25, you can get a 24 piece maki set delivered to your door! My favorites were Spicy Tuna and Chop Chop. It was very fresh overall and I could tell that he put a lot of work into his sushi. The rice was created with his signature blend of rice vinegar. It also comes with his signature soy sauce, which he recommends to not mix with wasabi but to put a little on the sushi and dip lightly.
How can you satisfy those sushi cravings? The next round of orders is tomorrow night (Sun) for Mar 31 at 7 PM. Link can be found on his Instagtram page. Get ready because orders fill up in LESS than a min!!! He delivers to all parts of , minimum 2 boxes per order. Delivery fee is already included in the pricing!

🍣 AYCE SASHIMI PLZ 🍣
I’m usually not a fan of AYCE places (quality over quantity) but I enjoyed eating at YEG Sushi Toshi! It’s an AYCE Japanese place in the northside that opened last year.
My recommendations:
- sashimi obviously - 30 pc limit per person
- hot stone steak - you get one choice of protein cooked on a hot stone (steak, pork belly, shrimp, or basa fillet)
- chop chop roll - 2 pc limit per person so go with someone that doesn’t like it
- dragon eye rolls - deep fried sushi rolls!!
- sushi cones
- beef tataki
💰 Pricing for adults: $37 (weekend) / $35 (weekdays)
As seen on BuzzFeed and Narcity Canada 👀 Cheesecake tea cups from Swiss 2 GO! I tried the Oreo Cookie and Caramel Rice Crispy flavours. The cheesecakes were delicious and made fresh. At $15, they are a bit pricey because of the small size but I’d say the quality is there 👌 Tip: check their Instagram for flavours and pre-order in advance because the cheesecake tea cup you want might already be sold out when you visit!
✨ NEW HANJAN DESSERTS ✨
HanJan is launching their Seasonal Menu tomorrow! I got to try the new desserts and lattes - Black Sesame Waffle, Matcha Toast, Black Sesame Latte, Ube Latte. Everything was delicious 😍 The Matcha Toast is the matcha version of their Honey Butter Toast!! Other items on the menu are spicy soups.
There's a new Korean restaurant in called Machef! It's quickly become my go-to place for Korean food. Read more about it on my blog!
Machef Korean Restaurant – Ms. Hangry Foodie An Edmonton-based food blog. Join me on my food adventures around the city!
BOBA MILK TEA CAKE! Found at Whyte House Cafe, this is a simple vanilla chiffon cake topped with a milk tea sauce and tapioca pearls. The sauce really did taste like milk tea and it wasn’t too sweet. It wasn’t anything too special tbh, I really like milk tea and I wasn’t blown away by this. It’s worth a try at least once though!
Whyte House Cafe also serves other desserts (there was a Japanese soufflé cake I was debating on getting), drinks (coffee and bubble tea), and a small selection of Asian savoury items. They had taken over what used to be Gama Cafe.
PSST 🗣 Cactus Club Cafe has sushi now and yes, it’s available in ! There are 2 kinds: Prawn Crunch Roll (pictured) and Spicy Ahi Tuna Roll. They’re both currently off-menu items rn and only limited quantities are available per day. Trust me when I say it’s limited, I went 4x in 1 week tryna order it and finally had the chance to eat it today! Normally, I prefer eating sushi rolls from a Japanese restaurant but Cactus did a good job with this one. It’s available at both the Jasper Ave and WEM locations + pairs well with the Truffle Fries!
✨ GIVEAWAY CLOSED ✨

Bubble Cream is now open inside West Edmonton Mall! 🧇 It was my first time trying this Hong Kong egg waffle place, which has been around in for a while. I originally heard of them at the Edmonton Night Market 2 years ago but they had sold out that night. The waffles here come in 3 sizes - perfect if you want a little snack or something more filling. You can choose from their premade creations or make your own. I got the biggest size and chose my own toppings. If you want to check them out, they’re located in front of World Waterpark!
Dorinku Osaka has opened up in downtown YEG! I was super excited when I originally heard that one of my favourite restaurants, Dorinku, was opening up a second location.
Dorinku Osaka is different from Dorinku Tokyo (on Whyte Ave) because the menu here focuses on Osaka food (like Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki, Yakitori). I only saw 3 items on the menu that the original location also serves. The interior gives off a more upscale atmosphere compared to the chill vibes of Dorinku Tokyo. This new location also has a ramen room in the back which I will definitely be back to try soon!
MY EXPERIENCE: My favorite items were the Okonomiyaki and the Wagyu Sukiyaki Pot. I was really excited for the Chicken Skin Chips but found them to not be as crispy and full of flavour as I had imagined. They were also very oily, which I found in most of the dishes that night.
Dorinku Osaka is currently in their soft opening phase right now but grand opening will be this Thurs. Congrats on the new restaurant, Dorinku!

There’s a new izakaya in town 👀🇯🇵 Checked our Shōjō Izakaya during their Grand Opening night and really enjoyed it! Although their menu was only one page, we enjoyed all the food that we had. They also have a huge cocktail + sake menu too! Here are my faves from the night: Mushroom Cream Udon, Tsukune, Shojo Fries, and Koji Fried Chicken.
Yelo'd has milkshakes now! I tried the Ube one the other day and it was amazing 🤤🍠 Flavours change just like their ice cream so check out their Instagram to stay updated!
Potato Corner Alberta is now open inside West Edmonton Mall! This famous chain from the Philippines has chosen to open up its first location in Canada right here in YEG. They specialize in all things potato, particular fries. You can choose from 3 different kinds: shoestring, waffle, and loopy, and from 6 different flavours: sour cream & onion, cheese, bbq, chilli bbq, wasabi, and truffle. I’m a huge potato lover so I was super excited to try these fries! My favourite flavours were cheese and truffle. Try them yourself at Potato Corner inside the Phase III food court! 🥔🍟
The Alley - It's time for tea is the newest bubble tea chain to come to YEG and it soft opens today at 11 am! It is located in Windermere behind the VIP theatre.
Don’t forget to stop by these next few days for their promotions:
• THURS + FRI: 10% off all drinks
• SAT + SUN: free drinks for the first 100 people at 3 pm and 15% off speciality drinks
My personal recommendations:
• Deerioca Puff: tastes like a creme brûlée with fresh brown sugar tapioca pearls
• Royal Milk Tea: not your average milk tea, this one is made with blueberries which creates a unique flavour
• Snow Strawberry Lulu: perfect for any strawberry lover
