Did you know October is National Bullying Prevention Month? District 51 is taking this opportunity to share some ways that you can protect yourself, your students, or your friends from bullying and cyberbullying. Let's create a safe a supportive space for all, by lifting each other up and allowing each and every one of us to belong.
▶️ ▶️ Teach your students how to...
📱 Stand up to cyberbullies.
💻 Be aware of who they talk to online.
⌨️ Be aware that what they post online can impact their future.
📱 Just because you can post online, doesn't mean you should.
💻 Know the basics of media literacy.
Bullying and cyberbullying are unacceptable and comments or conduct that disparage or demonstrate hostility or aversion are not tolerated by any District 51 school.
If you or someone you know is being bullied please reach out to a trusted adult or report the incident to your school's administration.
Short notice but a very important one! Imagine wearing your hat all day for a great cause! Mr. P can’t tell you to take the hat off at lunch, or in the hallway. Sounds amazing! 1 dollar to keep Mr. P from talking!!!

The decision to consolidate schools is difficult for everyone involved. The administration has been meeting with the demographer for over a month now. They will present the recommendation and reasons to the Board at our meeting on Tuesday, February 21st.
Before making a decision, the Board will carefully consider many factors and weigh the potential benefits and drawbacks.
School consolidation is not only a local and statewide problem; it's something most states in the western United States have to confront. We want to make sure we get out in front of it.
The Board is investigating how we can help consolidate on every level; we are approaching this from every angle by asking for information from admin, transportation, and facilities.
Many have expressed concern over retaining staff, crowded schools, and school programs, and why these were schools picked over others, this will all be asked about and addressed at Tuesday's meeting.
I have outlined some information and links to the board meetings where data has been presented and a link to a FAQ sheet.

I was working in NYC the week following the attack. I will never forget the feel and smell of the carnage throughout the city, the lives and families devastated by this act of terrorism. The selflessness and bravery of the first responders and all those who came to help.
I LOVED being in band and marching band! Parades, ball games….great times. Get out and support this great event.

GJPD and WCDTF warn of “Rainbow Fentanyl” distribution on Western Slope
The Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) and Western Colorado Drug Task Force (WCDTF) are advising the community of the existence of colorful “rainbow fentanyl” pills being distributed in Mesa County. “Rainbow fentanyl” is a new method used by drug cartels to attract children and teens to this highly addictive and potentially deadly drug. Approximately 60,000 fentanyl pills (“blues” and “rainbows”) have been seized on the Western Slope in the last two weeks. The Mesa County Coroner’s Office confirmed 12 deaths related to illicit fentanyl so far in 2022. This shows a rising trend in fentanyl deaths in Mesa County since 2019 when three related deaths were reported. The GJPD, Mesa County Sheriff's Office, and WCDTF are working with our partners at Mesa County Valley School District 51 on educating staff, students, and families, and encourages parents to have conversations with their children about the dangers of this drug.
