Get your little ones helping in the garden today, can they water the flowers, cut the grass or help with the weeding?

22/06/2020

Today is a great day for water play in the garden. Do some mark making with water or simply play using bowls, spoons, cups etc.

Father's day creations
Help your child to create something special for their dad/step dad/special male person in their life.
It could be a painting, drawing, collage. They could make a play dough creation, bake a cake or some cookies, ask your child what they would like to do see what ideas they have 😊

17/06/2020

Have some fun looking at your shadows today. See what different shapes you can make. Can you draw round a shadow? Can you find anything else that will make a shadow?

At pre-school this morning some of the children have been pretending to be pirates. We turned a table upside down for the ship, added a flag around a sweeping brush, made hats, telescopes and swords. What could you turn your room into using your imagination?

15/06/2020

Try getting your child to do different sorts of mark making. You can sellotape paper underneath a table or chair. Your child can then lay down and draw on the paper. Try sellotaping felt tips to the back of cars, your child can roll the cars around on a large piece of paper. Peg pieces of paper to your washing line, your child can use a paintbrush to flick paint or water at the paper. See if you or child can think of any different ways to mark make.

Today have a look at your containers you put outside. Which one has collected the most rain water? Use a ruler, tape measure or even a measuring jug to see how much is in each container. Which one has the most/least water in? Which one didn't collect much, why do you think that is?

11/06/2020

Sorry its a late one today! Whilst it's raining put some different containers outside to collect the rain water. You could use a bucket, a plastic bottle, a bowl, a cup etc. Then tomorrow you can see which container has the most water inside.

10/06/2020

Whilst playing in the garden at pre-school yesterday we saw a pigeon, a squirrel and even Mr fox from forest school!! When you are out on your exercise today see if you can spot any different birds and animals.

Hairdressers
Get your brushes, gel, combs, hairspray, Bobbles, headbands, clips whatever you can find. Pretend to wash, blow dry and straighten, see if you can come up with wacky hair styles or pretty ones, have fun 😊

08/06/2020

Masking tape road
Create a road or pattern for your cars, dinosaurs or princesses to follow. You could create pictures of trees, houses, castles etc to put around your road. See what small worlds you can create for your toys

Jumping in puddles
We are supposed to be getting more rain over the next few days. Put your wellies on and go in search of muddy puddles!! Have fun 😊

Create somewhere cosy for story telling. Use blankets or quilt covers, use tables, chairs or sofas. Build somewhere cosy and quiet and have a story telling day. Put your pillows and cushions inside to lay on. What stories will you read first? πŸ“–β˜ΊοΈ

Spider web hunt
As we've had a little bit of rain it is easier to spot the spider webs. In your garden or on a walk, see how many webs you can find. Make a mark on paper for every one you find. You can count the marks at the end to see how many you found. You can research different spiders on the Internet, see which ones might be living in your garden πŸ•ΈοΈπŸ•·οΈ

Car/bike wash
You could set up a car wash, use bowls of soapy water, sponges and cloths. Wash your big or little cars, bikes or scooters. See if you can make a sign for your car wash, I wonder how much you will charge πŸ€”

Windy day
Looks like it is going to be windy over the next couple of days. So why not make a kite or paper aeroplane.
You can use an old newspaper, paper plate, napkins, paper anything you have available to make a kite. Use straws or lolly sticks if you have them to make it sturdy. You can give it streamers using old material. See what you can create together and see how they fly πŸŒͺ️🌬️

21/05/2020

Cloud watching
Lay down in your garden and spend some time looking at the sky. See what your child can see or hear. Look at the clouds and see if you can see any shapes. You might see a dragon, a face or an aeroplane. It's quite relaxing to look up at the sky, have a go 🌫️😊

20/05/2020

Using technology
Whilst out on a walk or in your garden, ask your child to take photos of the things they find. When you get home look through the photos and talk about what they found. If there is something you are unsure of e.g. flowers or bugs, use books or the Internet to look them up.
Your child might want to create a picture or some marks about what they found. If they collected things they could make a collage.

19/05/2020

For all the children that love exploring outdoors and getting involved, this might be a nice idea for the them and the rest of the family 😊

Building:
You can use any sort of bricks you have or junk modelling materials. See what you can build. You can make a farm, a garage, a shop, an underwater world, a castle the possibilities are endless. Show us some of your creations by adding a photo below or upload them to tapestry for your key person to see 😊

Messy mark-making:
You will need a tray or something similar. Something messy such as beans, ketchup, gloop or paint. Put your messy item onto the tray, encourage your child to use their fingers to make marks in the mess. They could make circles, lines, zig zags or even write letters.

14/05/2020

Squirty bottles:
Wash out an old cleaning spray bottle and refill with water. Encourage your child to spray the flowers, grass, fence, wall etc. You could add a bit of paint and let them spray a large piece of paper (old wallpaper rolls are good). You could use chalk to draw pictures and they have to wash the picture away. See what fun you can create ☺️

No yeast pizza dough 13/05/2020

I made pizzas with my children last week using this recipe. It is very easy to do and fun for children to get involved in making their own tea.

Rolling:
Find a number of circular items e.g. coins, sellotape, buttons, lids, apple, orange etc. Your child rolls each item in the same direction. Which one rolls the farthest, which falls straight away. You could measure or mark how far they have gone. You could create a target for your child to aim the items at.

11/05/2020

Peg challenge:
You will need pegs and an empty box
Challenge your child to see how many pegs they can peg on the side of the box in a set amount of time e.g. 1 minute. If they are really fast, challenge them to take them all off again under the amount of time you set ⌚😊

Practice some physical skills:
Play catch with a large or small ball. See how high or how far you can throw it. Play football, tennis or cricket. You can practice jumping, skipping or hopping. See how many hops or jumps you can do 😊
