Letting Go Of Your Addicted Loved One 10/02/2020

Often when supporting someone we love with alcohol/drug addiction we actually end up enabling the addicts behaviour and contribute to them being stuck in that cycle.

Here are some great articles about just that please share with anyone you know who is trying to support an alcoholic or addict .

Let's talk about a Soba Revolution are you
Sober Curious? Extending dry January? Pregnant? or just simply choose not to drink?

Romeo & Juliet with a lime twist.

I fell in love with Romeo in 1987 at the tender age of 13. We embarked on a passionate, intoxicating love affair that would last 28 years. The moment I tasted him I was hooked, he became both my best friend and the love of my life. We did everything together we laughed, cried, partied hard, travelled the world and had a wild and crazy s*x life and in 2006 we finally moved in together. At first it was amazing we had dinner parties, romantic nights in and a busy social life going out with friends. Eventually all that stopped and it was just me and him alone in the house and it wasnโ€™t long before the cracks started to appear.

I didnโ€™t realise just how much control he had over me until it was too late. Romeo had completely taken over my life in a way that I never imagined possible. He accompanied me everywhere; apart from work but as soon as I got home the shackles were on and the obsessiveness was unbearable. Our relationship was a real roller coaster; in the beginning there were huge highs with the odd low, midway there were few highs, many lows and in the end I was suicidal. The control he had over me had turned my life into a living hell and on the 28th December 2015 I tried to end my life. Even that wasnโ€™t enough of a wake up call, he had too much of a hold over me and I went back twice more. I knew deep down that something had to change and on the 28th Feb 2016 I finally took my power back, kicked him to the kerb and chose ME!

By the way youโ€™ve probably come across someone whoโ€™s fallen prey to a Romeo of their own; he goes by a variety of pseudonyms; Samuel Adams, Jose Cuervo, Mickey Finn, Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Jacobs Creek, and my personal favourite Dom Perignon. ;-)

Iโ€™ve always been a life and soul of the party kind of girl and since parting from Romeo 4 years ago Iโ€™ve partied, raved, gigged, holidayed and so forth without him. During that time I also discovered that lots of other people choose not to drink for a variety of reasons; personal choice, clean eating, they hate losing control, perhaps thier job prevents it, religious beliefs, pregnancy, itโ€™s expensive, disrupts creativity, the hangovers are hell, losing weight (you may as well liquidise cream cakes), dry January/One year no beer, health (diabetic, epileptic, reacts with medication, anxiety - alcohol brings onโ€ hangietyโ€), depression (alcohol is a depressant and often causes session depression), alcoholic in the family and itโ€™s put them off and others simply donโ€™t like it.
