If you were visiting any of the Rowans Hospice Charity Retail Shops over the Platinum Jubilee weekend you may have spotted Eugene, who cycled across the community visiting each shop. This was a training ride for his Land's End to John O'Groats cycle challenge, which will take place later this year to generate income for the Charity.
Eugene told us, "I grew up on a very close-knit estate where everyone got on and the mothers treated all the kids like their own. Three of those mums have now passed away due to Cancer and they all received incredible care from the Rowans Hospice."
To keep up to date with Eugene's journey please visit https://buff.ly/3iPV9kS. Thank you for your continued support Eugene.

As many of you are aware, I’m cycling from lands end to John O’Groats in memory of three friends mums who sadly had their lives taken by cancer.
These ladies received incredible care from the Rowans hospice.
I want to raise as much money as I can for the Rowans hospice and this is why, please read this message from the Rowans hospice.
Thank you 💚
Rowans Hospice Charity is renowned for providing vital, person-centred, high quality and specialist end of life care to those affected by life limiting and progressive illness across Portsmouth and South East Hampshire. Many people think that Hospices are all about dying, but through the many different services such as the specialist in-patient unit, the Hospice at Home service and the Living Well Centre, the Charity supports people to live as well as they can with their illness. From the moment of diagnosis through to bereavement support.
The Rowans Hospice is a specialist 19-bedroom In-Patient Unit providing compassionate, expert care which includes physical, psychological, spiritual and social care for those affected by life limiting and progressive illness across Portsmouth and South East Hampshire. It is delivered free of charge, by specialist palliative care doctors and nurses in a relaxed and homely setting, where each person is treated as a unique individual and has their own private bedroom with en-suite bathroom.
Rowans Hospice Charity believes, wherever possible, people should be given a choice in where they would like to be cared for. Whilst many people feel very much at home in the Hospice, some prefer to be cared for in their own home where they can remain in familiar surroundings with their loved ones. The Hospice at Home Service offers end of life care in the home and visits are available to patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Hospice at Home team work alongside other community services to provide similar care to that which is available in the Hospice and can provide support with symptom control, management of distress, spiritual, psychological and end of life care.
The Rowans Living Well Centre is a self-referral support centre next door to the main Hospice building for adults who are affected by a life limiting and progressive illness. Regardless of diagnosis, the support extends to carers, family members and friends during any stage of illness, including bereavement. The team of nurses, complementary therapists and trained volunteers offer guidance, support and access to appointments (both in person and virtual) as well as a variety of support and social groups.
It costs in excess of £9 million pounds each year to provide the Hospice care services, with the Charity receiving just 20% of the income required from Government funding, the remaining 80% is generated by legacies, donations, fundraising and our Retail shops. The Charity’s reliance on voluntary donations remains critical in the aftermath of the COVID-19 Pandemic, which saw the Retail shops closed for many months, and all of the fundraising events cancelled. It is thanks to the help of the wonderfully loyal supporters and people in our local community who generate vital and much-needed income that supports the future of local Hospice care.

First ride outside for about five months.
Drove for seven hours to get here.
Didn’t have much time before it started to get dark.
Disappointed with any ride that’s under 30 miles.
But, it’s better than nothing I suppose.
