There is a new two-part episode out. The first one explains why I took two months off and the second is an overview of what is happening in and around China’s capital city. Interesting times. Also I got a new puppy haha. I found him in a bush. How could I say no to that face?
On this edition of NATP we are talking to guy that came to China with little and now has a string of restaurants in Beijing. He is a self made man. He says he was basically unemployable so he was forced to make it on his own. This is a great story for those of you that have dreamed of being your own boss. With him it is all about planning, hard work and having nothing to lose. Also, this edition isn't about bloody COVID!
Here is a clip from the latest Not A Team Player. We sit down with Rick Garson once again, but oh how times have changed! When Rick was our very first guest he was flying high with a great business, a new wife and baby and the sky was the limit. Enter COVID-19. His business has dried up and his mom even past away and he could not even go home for the funeral. Times are tough. Listen to Rick's struggle to stay positive in the face of so many uncertainties.
We have an amazing guest with a brilliant perspective on western and Chinese media amid this epidemic. Long time media man and publisher in Beijing, Mike Wester, joins us on NATP and doesn't hold back on his observations on how the west is battling the virus compared to China and how our different media perspectives are creating a lot of uncertainty for both sides. This is a great episode if you want to get a better understanding of how China's media are looking at the west instead of how the west is viewing China.
On the next episode of Not A Team Player we are talking to Mike Wester, owner and CEO of True Run Media. He publishes The Beijinger and Beijing Kids magazines and hosts several large scale events in Beijing. He has lived in Beijing for 20 years and has seen it all here, including surviving SARS back in 2003. He gives his take on both Chinese and western media during these challenging times.

We are talking about mental health and how to stay sane during these crazy times. The divorce rate is spiking as people aren't used to being in such close quarters for such an extended period of time. We have a mental health expert on the show to help us navigate some of the pitfalls of being in isolation or stuck with only our closest loved ones during this challenging period.

Last week we were talking about education during this historic time of the Coronavirus but this coming week we are talking to a phycologist that graduated from Yale and Brown, about isolation and how the virus measures are having an effect on the mind, relationships and people's general well being. It seems the divorce rate is skyrocketing in China! It will be a great show this coming week!

Beijing can be a pretty transient city and many long time residents have decided to head back to their home countries. Trevor sits down with Ryan Anderson to find out how he adjusted to moving back to the US with his pregnant Chinese wife. They talk about all the good and bad aspects of living in both counties.

The new Not A Team Player is now available. We are talking to The managing director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Beijing. It’s Canada vs. China on this edition.
