A Blue Plaque was unveiled yesterday in Brighton in honour of Tagore who went to school in this building, where Rajeswar and I performed in 1996. I wasn’t able to attend but here are some photos from those who did.
More history, again 1996. We performed at an anti-racist festival called Respect.
Rajeswar and my first ever concert in the UK was in 1996 in the Sussex Arts Club in Brighton. After I had booked the venue, I discovered it was the exact same building that Rabindranath Tagore went to school - 7 Ship Street in 1878. So we think Rajeswar was probably the first person to sing Tagore songs in this building. There will be a commemorative Blue Plaque installed there later this month on 28th October.
