Andrew Yule Employees Union

Tamilnadu's working class Movement has a history that is over a hundred years old. Collective bargaining was effected as soon as the Industries came to be in the later half of the 19th century. A recognised union was formed only in the year 1918, interestingly due to the efforts of two shop keepers besides the Buckingham and Carnatic Mills. Sympathetic to the hardships of the mill workers, they set up the union with support from public figures like Thiru. Vi. Kalyanasundaram (Thiru.Vi.Ka). The First president of the union was B.P. Wadia, a member of Annie Besant’s Theosophical Society and Home rule Movement.
