Wow!! Coming up fast is our Mata Ortiz Pottery Cultural Weekend at the Cabot’s Pueblo Museum Friday February 21st through Sunday February 23rd from 9am until 4pm each day, with a traditional on the ground firing, auction and talk each day at 11am and 2pm (as long as those winds cooperate!). Stop by and meet MIND BLOWING Master Potters Javier Martinez and his wife Gaby Perez, Trini Silveira and Lila Silveira. Javier Martinez is a past winner of the Mexican National Ceramics Awards, and all three have won numerous awards for their work in clay. The artists dig their own clay from the surrounding countryside, strain it to remove as many impurities as possible, hand build the pots without the use of a potter’s wheel, polish with the use of an agate stone or hardened seed,paint with natural paints using home made paintbrushes crafted of human hair and then finally fire the piece - which is traditionally done on the ground! Come out and learn more while you see one of the most impressive collections of pottery all in one location!

Mark you calendars as the most exciting Mata Ortiz pottery event in California is fast approaching!! Visit in February 20 - 24th, 2019!! We’ll be having a traditional pottery firing at 11am and 2pm each day if the weather permits. And we are featuring four master potters!! Fan favorites Lila Silveira and her sister Trini Silveira will be joined by Guadalupe Ledezma and Karla Quintana. All are fantastic second generation potter from They will also be demonstrating hand building of pots without the use of a potter’s wheel, hand polishing with an agate stone, and painting with long strands of human hair!!
