As we age, sleep becomes more and more difficult... but what can we do to remedy that?
Here is some advice from a sleep researcher I just listened to:
๐ REGULARITY- go to sleep at the same time and wake up at the same time... even on weekends!
๐Keep it COOL- your body needs to drop 2-3ยฐF to sleep efficiently.
For me, some of the things that help me sleep well include a pre-bedtime routine that helps prepare my body for a good nightโs sleep.

This morning, I ended my work out with a 14 minute TED talk about stress ๐ค and the benefits of treating it as a friend instead of an enemy. So many of view as a negative, as something that could kill us. However, this researcher had some incredibly interesting insights into how stress actually helps us prime our bodies to perform better and become stronger.
Really glad that I took the time to watch this today, as I am about to embark on two days of teaching from home with a three-year-old ๐ช whirling through my house.
Off to mix up my Mind Health and fizz to prep my ๐ง and body for the unique challenge ahead today!

Halloween Party Prep!
For the first time ever... EVER ever... I got up for 5 days in a row BEFORE WORK to get my workouts in!
Let me tell you... it was HARD at first!
After a few days, though, I noticed it was already becoming part of my routine. I still need my multiple alarms (sense of humor necessary!) but it is happening, and the habit is being formed!
If I can do THIS, YOU can do ANYTHING!

My personal mantra for the week (as part of my ) is โSTART STRONG, STAY STRONGโ. I figure that if I start each day with strength, Iโll build more energy to last throughout the day.
So, I made a commitment this week to get my butt out of bed to work out BEFORE work. About halfway through my workout, my sunshine decided it was time to start her day. I could have very easily chosen to hop off the bike and cuddle my baby, but I decided to push through.
Sometimes, obstacles (even super cute ones) are thrown in your way to test your resilience and resolve.

If you had met me two years ago, you would have met a different person. I know this is an odd thing to say about myself, but it is true.
I was struggling. No, not struggling... DROWNING.
Drowning in self doubt, drowning in fear, drowning in the opinions (whether they were real or assumed) of other people.
I was fighting to try and discover my purpose and to create ANY kind of vision for myself and my future. I had no idea what tomorrow would look like, let alone the next few years of my life- and years down the road? FORGET IT...
Why am I sharing this with you? Looking through my feed, talking to my friends, listening to people around me, I know that MANY of you may be feeling just as I described. Alone. Misunderstood. Fearful. Drowning.
What I want to tell you is something you may already know, but need to hear anyway- you do NOT have to confine yourself to that reality. I did, for too long, but not anymore. How did I change? When I opened my eyes enough to notice opportunities to change my path, and I took them. What stops many of us from doing that? FEAR.
Fear of what exactly? For me, it was fear of judgement. Fear of failure. Fear of making mistakes.
There is a MUCH better journey on the other side of your fear and doubt. If you are looking for a way out, know that I am here to throw you a life preserver. The path may not be easy, and it may be scary, but trust me- you will be glad that you shifted your course, and the risks will be worth the reward.
People (including me๐๐ผโโ๏ธ) throw out the term โself-careโ a whole lot these days...
Having a glass of wine? โSelf-careโ
Getting nails done? โSelf-careโ
Binge watching TV shows? โSelf-careโ
To be truthful, my understanding of self-care has evolved a whole lot this past few months. What I have come to realize is that self-care isnโt a thing or an action... it is a mentality.
โขIt is making decisions to bring you closer to your best self.
โขIt is identifying and avoiding things/people/actions that will not serve you.
๏ฟผ๏ฟผโขIt is understanding who you want your future self to be and taking steps in THAT direction each and every day.
โขIt is forgiving yourself for making mistakes and moving forward instead of dwelling on what you should have done.
Self-care is NOT an act, nor should it be used as an EXCUSE to act in a way that does not serve you.
Tonight, my self-care mentality helped me make the decision to walk away from the TV and snacks, slap on my Rescue and Renew Detox Face Mask, pour myself ONE glass of wine (measured appropriately...), and head up to bed early to finish the first Outlander novel instead.
Small steps can have a big impact... what will you do today to help shape your future self?
