Evening…..it’s restock day!!!

A fab run out with lovely family to The Humber Bridge Garden Centre to restock our cards …..including a gorgeous lunch in the sunshine by the lake & a good old mooch around….will love a mooch especially when we see our cards in their gorgeous food hall 💕💕

Morning…..a cool but beautiful one here in our little village….the birds are singing and the squirrel is on his nuts and the hens are happy 💕💕

It’s been a fabulous week of painting chickens….and today we will paint more ….it’s one of our favourite things to do ….we also squeezed in another double batch of chutney yesterday there’s nothing more satisfying than hearing the pop of the jar lids as they cool down …ahhhh💕💕

We also have orders to pack and a family lunch to catch up …….so it’s going to be a wonderful day 💕

Evening……it’s been a warm one here in our little part of East Yorkshire…..it was a sitting outside, drinking Prosecco with good friends kind of afternoon….on a Wednesday…..sometimes it’s the impromptu times that are extra special 💕💕

We do know it was International Dog Day at the weekend but we couldn’t share this piece as it was a surprise birthday gift …..so we waited …..and now the surprise is delivered we can share with you 💕💕

This beautiful little frenchie was a total pleasure to paint …..he has such a sparkle….definitely a cheeky glint in his eyes….painting loved pets is a total privilege…..we just love him 💕💕

The roses are still flowering in the hen garden….Golden Beauty…..she really is ….we picked her for her name …..so many of our girls are golden beauties💕💕

These four gorgeous white rescues are Peggy, Penny, Peachy & Peanut and their little friend Potato…..they are loved and cared for by the hen loving Lilly Smith 💕💕

Hey…..We’ve been asked to share our Pear Chutney recipe…..it’s so satisfying to make, it’s simple & delicious…..hope you enjoy it as much as we do ……as it’s a little different it makes a lovely homemade gift for friends too 🍐🍐

Morning………a grey but beautiful one in our little part of East Yorkshire ….a nice breeze, a little watery sunshine and a touch of autumn in the air if I’m honest 💕💕

The apples are getting ready to be picked and today I’m going to be starting our annual Pear Tree Chutney make from the windfalls from last weeks wind ….its the best chutney ever …..even if we do say it ourselves 💕💕

Cyril the squirrel is so naughty and becoming quite tame he doesn’t bat an eyelid if you are in the garden…he just loves his nuts…..drives the packaging team bonkers 💕💕

We’ve just realised it’s International Dog Day …

Evening…..as expected it’s been a busy studio day but you have to have some chill time to let things dry …..honest 💕💕

The girls have had a wonderful day of watermelon, blueberries, dust bathing & generally causing havoc (check out our reel if you haven’t already) ……but still little Miss Nunu found something to complain about…..apparently my shorts are not acceptable attire for any hen wishing to sit on my knee….at least she hasn’t mentioned the size of my thighs 💕💕

Morning…..Happy Bank Holiday Monday everyone……it’s a beautiful one here….a cooler morning but beautiful sunshine 💕💕

It may be the Bank Holiday but the week starts here at JHWL HQ ……we are getting busy …..but we love what we do so that’s just perfect 💕💕

Not only do we have the Charity Calendar to complete but we are starting to receive orders for Christmas pet portraits……I know I’ve said the word but it’s all true….pet portraits make very special gifts…..a watercolour one off of someones best friend or soul mate 💕💕

We obviously love doing hens and have done quite a few over the last two years….but we do all kinds of cuteness…..here is a small selection of some of our pieces 💕💕

So if you are interested drop us a message….they all done from photos …..prices do vary on size so we will discuss all your requirements and get something right for you 💕💕

We can even do multiple pets when you don’t have a photo of them together…..it’s the magic of art 💕💕

Evening……it’s been a funny old day …..not very productive but hey it is Sunday so let’s not worry 💕💕

We did have one bit of excitement whilst having a leisurely breakfast …….a young starling being chased by a sparrow hawk collided into our patio window at high speed …….the hawk got tangled up in the patio furniture and the starling was on the floor……we managed to untangle her feet and Mr JHWL held her whilst she got her breath and then she sat on his arm for a little while getting her bearings …..the young starling also was just winded and managed to fly away….both in different directions, both safe and both live to fly another day 💕💕

Thankfully the Packaging Team were snoozing and missed the whole event….that’s enough excitement for one day we think 💕💕

Morning….it’s a cool but a beautiful one this morning…..no wind or rain just cool sunshine 💕

I love these gorgeous daisies they are always a little later flowering than all the others and always look so happy…..they live in one of our planters and come back year after year…..my plant finder app sometimes says they are Yellow Oxeye Daisies and sometimes Black Eyed Susan …..does anyone know?

Whatever they are they are a joy to have in the garden …..the butterflies & the bees love them too 💕💕

This gorgeous guy was submitted by his wonderful owner Charmaine Roberts….his story is to often heard as he was from a school hatch project, the vet thinks something went wrong at hatch and he ended up disabled….double rubbish but the wonderful Charmaine saved him and loved him….we think with the fabulous paint job on his support he would make a brilliant Mr November 💕💕

Morning…..it’s as blowy as a very blowy thing in our little part of East Yorkshire as Storm Lilian blows herself through…..actually Lilian is a lovely name for a hen 💕💕

We’re always on the look out for nice hen names ….I find graveyards have fabulous names when I’m stuck ….it may sound odd but it’s true 💕

So we are thinking today could be another studio day …..we have exciting new chicken colours in our watercolour paint selection….. who will be next out of the 135 hens & cockerels we have to choose from 💕💕

Evening…..well the weather today made the perfect studio day ….so as promised we painted & painted …we have loved every minute of the time spent recreating some of your fabulous photos into watercolours ….💕💕

These beautiful ladies are Pippa, Pearl & Peaches and their wonderful owner is Millie Punton……we hope you love them as much as we loved painting them 💕💕

Morning…….its a blustery one today here in our little part of East Yorkshire ….no one in the gang likes gusty wind…..it turns your fur or feathers back to front…..drives the packaging team crazy and it makes the hens complain a lot 💕💕

So my plan this week has been to focus on our 2025 Charity Chicken calendar….but with bike rides & walks we have not painted since last week……I miss it when I don’t do it ….which is odd after 53 years of not knowing I could do it …it’s now become something I miss…..life is funny that way 💕💕

So today as the old expression goes….’Im gonna get my finger out’ and crack on …..this calendar won’t paint itself and we love supporting FPC Poultry Rescue UK …..we have so many wonderful hens & cockerels to paint…..watch this space 💕💕

Evening…..well our no plan day turned into a lovely trip down memory lane…..when I was 10 my mum & dad bought a small holding in a lovely village and we left in 1987 due to my dads ill health 💕💕

Today we were in the area collecting some porcelain clay and we went to have a look💕💕

We walked in the village and saw our cute old house…then walked along the canal where we swam as kids …..the canal is now reopened and has boats on it and working locks …..the skies were moody but it was wonderful to visit and it brought back some lovely memories 💕💕

Morning…..a beautiful but blowy one in our little village…..if you have cobwebs they will be blown away today ….but nice & warm in the sunshine 💕💕

The wind has given us a busy morning clearing some of the chicken garden of windfall apples & plums ….. leaving some obviously for the hens & nature to naturally tidy up …. the hens love fallen fruit 💕💕

It’s been a reflective day today thinking a lot about all sorts but especially my little Gracie who we lost a week ago …..we are still sad 💕💕
