These maps simply help us see the picture on a state by state level. What if you could see it on a hospital or even unit level? Would that change your career trajectory if you could easily find data on salary, experience, and culture by unit? How many times have you held off exploring new nursing career paths because "the grass may not be greener on the other side?" If you are a new grad who doesn't have an inside scoop, how do you decide what hospital to work your first assignment at? If you knew that the first-year experience was so poor that 30% of new grads leave the profession within their first year would you be more selective?

Safernursing.com will be in beta soon. The tool was released on a private server for alpha testing, and within the next month will be in beta testing. Check back for future updates!

A more ominous picture starts to emerge though. Looking at the previous map from 2015-2018, this 2019-2021 map really shows that care across the US has suffered. Far fewer states have above average scores as shown by the colors being less vibrant. Essentially this helps us understand just how nationwide our crisis is.

This map is a group of aggregated values from the CMS database on US hospitals which pertain to nurse sensitive indicators. These indicators include things like HAPI, CAUTI, 30-day mortality, readmission rates, and patient/nurse communication metrics. Lighter colors are closer to average, orange is below average, and blue is above average.

In this data, there are many states like Utah, Wisconsin, Idaho, Vermont, and Maine whose hospitals consistently rank above average in most metrics. This correlates to nurses who have the ability to give care which results in less infections and lower mortality.
