How is Kuya Berta now?

From a streetdweller to a public speaker.❤️

He used to entertain people on the streets by his singing and dancing moves but now God has provided him with a new platform, this time where he can share HOPE and most of all spread God's grace and mercy.

Evertytime people would see and hear Kuya Berta talk on the stage (school, offices, barangay, government agencies and private gatherings) they would feel amaze and astonish. Amaze and astonish in a sense that witnessing him beg, roaming around and sleep on the streets of Cebu for over 20 years and also once suffered from addiction would be able to have a change of heart
plus inspire those who are still lost and broken in life to get back on track and live much more meaningful Christ Centered lives.

October of 2020 he was rescued and brought to Safehaven and up to this very day his progress has been truly amazing and just like many others in Safehaven he has realized that life is indeed BETTER without drugs, gambling and alcohol.

Gikan sa usa lamang ka manglimus sa kadalanan kaniadto, karon malipayun na sa iyang kinabuhi isip usa ka normal nga kinabuhi.

Daw espesyal kini nga birthday tungod kay mag selebrar siya sa iyang adlaw'ng natawhan nga hapsay ug hilayu na sa makaadik nga bisyu.

"What makes it more special is that he will be celebrating his birthday two years clean and sober from drug addiction."

Kinsay magtuo nga ang kaniadto nga 20 katuig nga wala sa kaugalingon, ambassador na karon sa paglaum.

Nagbirthday siya niadtong Oktobre 5, 2023.

What made it more special today kai naka kaon ka sa pa ice cream ni Kuya Berta spending his 50th birthday today.

No to addiction and YES to mental health and addiction awareness and treatment programs!

He didnt really care about how he looked.😭

Kuya Berta said that during those times when he was still streetdwelling on the streets of Cebu it never came to mind that someday he would be concious about how he looks even to the point in making sure that his fingernails and toenails would look clean and fresh.😊

Now, he is not only 2 years sober from drug addiction but also does make sure that every single day that he would report to the office at Safehaven (where he finished his treatment program and is also currently connected as admin assistant ) he would always look clean and presentable especially these days that he has been receiving numerous invitations.

Just this afternoon, both of us were sharing LOVE for the community specially sa mga kids and mga teenagers sa B.Rodriguez Cebu City.

Also to fellow advocates John Rey Catiri and Guntuwangko Rodmei for making this feeding program possible.

A well known streetdweller in Cebu City for more than 20 years attended his first ever formal training yesterday at Marina Cebu together with other professionals.

Alongside Kuya Berta are Doctor Nemia Yap Bellosillo and Maam Maria Fe Abella ,Safehaven Senior Admin.

Even Kuya Berta would have never thought that he would be able to experience again attending trainings and seminars like he used to as a former teacher BUT with God nothing is truly impossible!

After 20 long years of suffering Kuya Berta is back to his old form no longer as a teacher but still an educator. Educating, inspiring and helping those who are lost in life to regain their lives back and become Ambassadors of HOPE just like him.♥️

* Berta was rescued last October 2020 and has completed his treatment program last July of this year (2021) and has been a part of SafeHaven's Advocacy in saving lives*

Right side photos taken last Thursday December 2 2021 , Berta receiving his allowance (two thousand pesos) as an admin assistant staff for SafeHaven. He was really full of smiles.🥰💖

Berta can still remember that during those times when he was still street dwelling, he would receive a lot and share it to his family and fellow street dwellers especially during Christmas Season.

*For 20 plus years Berta was street dwelling, suffered from drug addiction and mental illness*

But he has never lost his sense of generosity, whatever he receives now he would still share it to his family and to some clients here in SafeHaven who has been abandoned by their families.

He is really an epitome of HOPE to us all. He is a living proof that life can really still get BETTER!💖💖💖

Si Berta, usa sa atong makit-an nga maglaroy-laroy sa kadalanan: ma-Fuente, ma-Jones ug ma-Urgello. Kinsa gud tawn wala kaila ni Berta. Kinsa gud intawn boanga wala makadungog sa iyang mga hugot ug banat.

Niadtong Nov. 27, 2020, sa ilang 3rd engagement, malipayon nga nihisgot nga maligo na siya ug gusto na siya motudlo pag-balik. Sa iyang 3rd engagement makita na nimo nga dako ang recovery ni Berta tungod sa iyang mga tubag nga tugma nas mga pangutana.
