A very late night on Friday finishing recording this song was totally worthwhile, I think it’s beautiful. I loved writing this, hope you enjoy it.

Hold Me Up - Acoustic Version

One of the first songs I wrote.
Just messing about on the guitar one evening, playing nice easy open chords on the guitar G,D,C and the idea “Hold me up” was stuck in my head.
A couple of hours later the song was finished, my tea had gone cold and I had missed a tv program I had been waiting all week to watch!
That’s the danger of guitars they are full of music.

Love this song, I wrote it before we had any idea a virus would cause such catastrophic change to our lives.
I think already we are starting to forget what we were first missing.

Two of my favourite guitars
One is an iconic very well known make and model the other is not so well known but is one of the nicest guitars I have ever played.
Who knows which is which?

Had a great few weeks enjoying the changing weather conditions and feeling creative with new ideas for songs.

Not sure why, but a stormy sea and changing skies is often the inspiration for a new song, surprisingly I don’t think I have ever used “sea” or “sky” as a lyric!

I will be mixing a new song and adding a little more acoustic guitar this afternoon.

The song is called “own way” it has become a favourite of mine.
I guess in some way it’s about the routes I have traveled.

As always Catherine at the amazing CJC Promotion’s will get to listen first and hopefully give me the confidence to release it over the coming weeks.

People often ask me how do you start songwriting.

“It’s very helpful to start with something that’s true. If you start with something that’s false, you’re always covering your tracks. Something simple and true, that has a lot of possibilities, is a nice way to begin.

“For a songwriter, you don’t really go to songwriting school; you learn by listening to tunes. And you try to understand them and take them apart and see what they’re made of, and wonder if you can make one, too.”

My final advice just try! I believe we absorb music during our lives and we all have the potential to take it apart and then put it back together in our own way.
