This morning I’m attending the Platform Committee. The gentleman in the blue checkered shirt, Carter Thomas, is from Wilson County and is our representative from SD 21 on the committee. Our platform is currently very, very long. I’m hoping they can pare it down a little.

You wouldn’t think that “rules” would be very interesting, but the Rules Committee is where it is happening! SD21 is very capably represented by Kathy Haigler from Caldwell County. I left the meeting of the Rules Committee last night at 10 pm and they were still hard at it. Thank you Kathy for representing us.
This is a photo of the Legislative Priorities Committee meeting this morning. Yes, that is our own Julie Dahlberg, Republican candidate for State Senate for SD 21 serving on the committee.

Benito and I had a great day in Laredo yesterday. We attended a Cafecito sponsored by the Webb County Republican Party held at Christ Miracle Center, an absolutely beautiful venue. There were two speakers, Alma Jackson and Joseph Vargas. Ms. Jackson is the President of the Juan Seguin Society, whose vision ”is to seek and work with Hispanics in order to build conservative leaders who will best serve their communities.” She gave a very inspiring speech! Mr. Vargas is also associated with the society and talked about how to respond to traps laid for conservatives when debating with liberals. You can find out more about his suggestions in his book, “The Democrat Modus Operandi.” We were blessed to be joined by our friends, Sandra Whitten, who is in a run-off for Texas’ 28th Congressional District, Julie Dahlberg, who is running for State Senator in Senate District 21, and Joe Brennan, who is running for Texas House of Representatives in District 42. Many thanks to Pastor Esther R Gallegos for the use of the church and to Webb County Republican Chair Luis De La Garza for inviting us.
Starr County Republican Candidates had a great meeting last night at the Alcazar Brewery in Rio Grande City. We were joined by Cat Parks, the Vice-Chair of the Republican Party of Texas and Wayne Hamilton with Project Red TX. Many thanks to Cat and Wayne for making the trip down to talk to our candidates.
If you haven’t already voted early, please go vote tomorrow, May 7. There are two State Amendments on the ballot as well as other local elections. Check for local polling places.
Many thanks to the Hays County Republican Party for inviting me to join them at the Cinco De Mayo Celebration put on by Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos. Those guys really know how to put on a party. And everything was so colorful! I was happy to meet Bob Parks, Chair of the Hays County Republican Party, and his absolutely lovely wife. I also got to meet Sandi Ellen, President of the Hays County Republican Women’s Club, and her husband, as well as a number of Republican officeholders and candidates. The success of Hays County Republicans is amazing! If you would like to learn more about Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos, check out their website, https://www.sanmarcoscentro.org.
Join me tomorrow in Webb County!
Get ready for Cafecito May 7!
Our guest speakers are Alma Jackson & Joseph Vargas! Come hear them talk about The Juan Seguin Society, an organization created to reach & prepare Hispanics for civic engagement.
Wow! That’s the best way to describe the RNC Community Center in Webb County, where Benito and I attended Family Game Night last night. We were able to catch up with a lot of old friends and make new friends. We also got to hear from Joe Brennan, who is running for Texas House District 42, and Cassy Garcia, who is in a run-off with Sandra Whitten for US Congress in District 28. The facilities are just beautiful and I love the idea of having families and friends gather to spend time together, play a few games, and share ideas about politics. And you can see that I proudly wore my Julie Dahlberg for Texas Senate t-shirt.
I would like to send my sincere thanks to the Wilson County Republican Women’s Club for allowing me to attend their monthly meeting yesterday. Their club is nothing short of inspiring. The club has several ongoing projects that provide support across their community touching many groups including the elderly, students, and children in need. They also provide support to GOP candidates and have acted as a well spring of local Republican candidates.
