Today is International Workers' Day and XIPE want to celebrate it by announcing the first gigs of our tour! (more coming soon)
It's nice to think that in each of these far-flung towns, between two continents, there are small communities that gather in incredible and perhaps bizarre venues to listen to persistent and rare sounds!

Our work is completely independent and lives through the networks created by these visionary people. The purpose of all efforts is just to get together somewhere to share the deep experience of listening.

The visible work is only a small part of the much invisible work. Support the independent workers!

We composed this piece with the rotations of Voladores of Mexico in mind... their incredible falls... the air... the void...
In the book "Man, Play and Games", Roger Callois talks about this ancient, pre-colonial tradition in relation to a category of games, those that provoke "ilinx", vertigo.

The journey of this album has been incredible.
And absolutely nothing could describe it better than the artwork we chose as the cover: Geografia Temporale, Il cadere di lontane stelle II, realised by the artist Sophie Ko with pure pigment, ashes of burnt images and fragments of butterflies.
This image seems to us to describe very well what Nepantleras are: beings whose lives reflect an idea of transition and passing.

Nepantleras was born in Hangar.org (Barcelona) during a creative residency in July 2021. After that we tried to send our recordings to a musician who is a great reference for us... well thank you E #, Elliott Sharp for listening to our work.
We are truly honoured to be in the Zoar Records catalogue alongside musicians who have been so important to us such as Christian Marclay, Jim O'Rourke and Elliott himself and many others.
The reality is that... we can't believe it!

Nepantleras, Xipe's debut album Nepantleras Xipe debut album jazzespresso 2022 zOaR Records announces the release of Nepantleras, Xipe's debut album.

We have an announcement and we have a date: APRIL 1st !

Our debut album NEPANTLERAS will be released on Zoar Records (New York), produced and mastered by Elliott Sharp!
We are really happy because we love zOaR and its musicians and this honours us deeply.

The album has been recorded between Hangar.org (Barcelona) and the newborn Mana's Diner studio (Mondovì) and mixed by Andrea Marazzi.

It contains nine tracks and it will be released in digital, CD and cassette formats thanks to Hangar support.

The title is a bit difficult to pronounce... but very important to us!
"Nepantla" is a Nahuatl word which means "in the middle".
Nepantla can be described as a liminal space and NEPANTLERAS as beings whose lives reflect a concept of transition and in-between-ness. As a term, it might also refer to living in the borderlands or being at literal or metaphorical crossroads, as used by the Mexican writer Gloria Anzaldúa.
