Our President and CEO, Nicole Acosta, had the privilege of presenting our Workforce Housing Now campaign at the Virginia Housing Rural Housing Advisory Council meeting today in Lynchburg. It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss innovative solutions for workforce housing in rural areas with knowledgeable people like Chris Thompson, Director of Strategic Housing for VA Housing.
Needless to say, we are excited!

Exciting News for Loudoun County! 🏡✨
The Loudoun Board of Supervisors has approved a groundbreaking 100% affordable housing project! The Atlantic Boulevard Residential Rezoning will bring 80 affordable multi-family units to Sterling, moving us closer to our housing goals. This approval was achieved in just six months, setting a new standard for fast-tracking affordable housing applications.

🏡 Starting May 15, 2024, Loudoun County residents facing rent struggles or eviction may qualify for assistance from two new programs. Funded by Loudoun County Government and administered by Loudoun Cares in partnership with Northern Virginia Family Service and Crossroads Jobs, these initiatives aim to support individuals and families who meet the following criteria:
• Live in Loudoun County;
• Have a current lease for which rent is more than 30% of household income;
• Have a total household income of no greater than 80% of the Area Median Income; and
• Be disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. (This includes historically marginalized populations, adults who have complex needs, households who have lost wages during the pandemic, or those who have experienced challenges in accessing services.)
To apply, individuals can complete an online pre-screening form available at loudouncares.org/help starting May 15 at 12:00 p.m. Any applicant who does not have access to the internet may call Loudoun Cares at 703-669-4636 for assistance in submitting an application.

Do you know why local Housing Trust Funds are so important? They're important because they serve as leverage and gap financing. For every $1 of local funds invested in a project, at least another $6 in private or other public funds are leveraged. That means that $5.9 million this year will seed over $35 million in additional investment in Loudoun County. Isn't that incredible?!

What is an Accessory Dwelling Unit and why are they one solution to Loudoun's Workforce Housing crisis? These are secondary living units with a separate entrance/exit. Examples include basement apartments, backyard cottages, in-law suites, and garage apartments. This approach can provide affordable housing for Loudoun's workforce but zoning does not always support them, and HOAs often restrict them. Does yours?
