I love my office. It is more than a place of work. It is my library, art gallery, art studio, meditation space and my most beloved room in the house. This is just a small part of one corner. @missjenninz is one of my favourite artists. Trev bought this piece from @gallerydenovo last year for me. I love this wee art corner as it is just slapped together but it works and makes me feel light and happy.

Our emotions are our internal guidance system tell us when we are lined up with how we want to be living our lives. Finding ourselves feeling low vibe emotions is an indication that our thoughts about the subject are not in alignment with what our desire is. It’s a wonderful thing but often people don’t know that what is the cause of the emotion is the thoughts about the subject or situation not the situation itself. That is amazing news as we can change our thoughts instantly to one that feels better if we choose to. The situation has absolutely nothing to do with how we can feel about it. That is so liberating to know. By taking small steps to find a better feeling thoughts, can soon move the emotions up the emotional scale. Dwelling in the low vibe stories that we often tell others about how horrid the situation is, mostly to make it more dramatic and perceptively more interesting, or to gain sympathy, is simply inviting more of the crap in to our lives. So much better to find the silver linings and figure out what you prefer and tell those stories instead. 💕

I just want to give a heads up that not all my posts will be about my experience with “rogue cells”, but I feel that I have a bit of insight to share that might resonate with some of you, or someone you know. Feel free to ask any questions of to get in touch if you what to chat ❤️

My husband has this running joke. "What is the first thing I do before starting anything? Ask my wife what she wants" he says. Bless that man! I don't know how I got so lucky. Anyway what this brings me to is actually the fact that we need to ask ourselves this question often. "What do I want?". At first it can seem quite a simple thing, but this is only half of the real question. Adding in a "yes & why?" takes things to another level. Actually seven levels (some say 5, others more) but the gist of it is to figure out something that you want, and discover the real underlying why of wanting it. Spoiler alert.... the final answer is always a feeling. The reason that humans do anything is because of the feeling that they think they will have in the receiving/accomplishing of their desire. Heres an example of one of my Seven Why's that I did years ago. What do I want? - To have a successful coaching business Why is that important to me? - Because I want to help people Why? - Because I wish I had had someone help me when I was lost. Why? - Because I have learned so much and I feel I can save others heartache and time Why? - Because time is precious & there are other things that these people need to be doing in the world. Why? - Because I will feel useful and needed if I can support them in realising their potential. Why? - Because feeling needed means I am being seen and I am making a difference. Why? Because I feel worthy of the life I have created, & I am important in the world. So in the end, the feeling of "worthiness" is my underlaying "why". However, as great & noble as the answer of "wanting to help people" is, it has nothing to actually do with anyone else. What I really want is to have the feeling of "worthiness" in myself. And I can decide to have that feeling anytime I want, simply by choosing thoughts that support that emotion. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE working with my clients and giving them space to have their own break throughs, but I do not need the

Now one of the things that I am having a hard time with at the moment is weight gain. Not so long ago, I could drop all the excess cheese and wine weight that seems to come along every summer, but not this time, my friend. This “Menopot” (the extra bit that has developed around my middle), I have learned, is caused by not only the chips & dip, but the state of my gut health, which has a huge influence on hormones. I put my microbiome under pressure and usually I can bounce back but because of being in perimenopause, the hormone factor has dealt the joker & the laugh is on me..... so what gives? The microbiome (the collection of healthy bacterias, fungi, viruses that live in our small intestine) is kind of an endocrine “organ”. There is a subset of the microbiome that is called the estrobolome, and you guessed it, it metabolises the estrogen that is circulating in the body. It maintains the estrogen balance, which in turn impacts weight, libido, bone health, cardiovascular health and mood. So if your gut microbiome is out of whack, then you can have either too much or too little estrogen which will start a cascade of symptoms that are synonymous with perimenopause. Estrogen and progesterone both fuel healthy bacteria in the gut. When the levels of these hormones start to fluctuate (which is what happens in perimenopause) it can cause dysbiosis (imbalance) which leads to a range of digestive issues like cramping, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating and indigestion. So not having great gut health going into perimenopause just makes for a bit of a perfect “sh*t” storm (excuse the pun). When the microbiome is happy & balanced, the estrobolome will produce optimal levels of beta glucoronidase (an enzyme that helps with excreting excess estrogen) & is a good thing. If you are constipated or not pooping daily there is the risk of becoming estrogen dominant (too much estrogen) which can cause other symptoms like: PMS, Obesity, Endometriosos, infertility, mood dist

I had so much fun consciously grinning and sharing that grin yesterday, that I thought I would share my grin with you. It’s so fun, it feels great and makes others wonder what you have been up to😉 I dare you not to be grinning too after watching me❣️ #grinandshareit

Question your thoughts Our thoughts about something create our feelings about it. In every moment we get to choose our thoughts. We get to decide if the thought is one we want or not. If you find yourself with a thought that causes worry or anxiety it is a wonderful opportunity to then ask yourself a question in opposition to the thought. Say my thought is “ what if I make a mistake” and I make that mean that I am a failure, people will laugh at me and say mean things. That thought creates feelings that I don’t enjoy. A better question to start with might be, “What if I just do it and it goes smoothly?” The thoughts around that might be that I am trying something new which is exciting and I will have fun doing it. This leads to feelings of happiness and ease. Worry is giving power to some that hasn’t happened and might never happen. If you want to give thought and energy to an outcome that hasn’t occurred, you may as well make it more positive energy

Stress Doing too many things Frenetic energy Reacting not responding Lose you sh*t at nothing Urgency Productive Tired but wired Leads to anxiety Over-doing over-tasking When you rest you call yourself lazy Must be perfect Too much effort so not to let anyone down Burnout Disengaged & don’t care Disconnected Don’t make a fuss Uncompleted tasks Treading water, helplessness, hopelessness Unproductive No motivation whatsoever Leads to depression “what’s the point?” Emotionally abusing yourself Unpositive thoughts about self Overwhelmed from the start “I can’t do this, I will fail again” Too hard to put in effort in Self deprecating Takes time to recover from both of these situations. You need to learn how to rest & set boundaries Be ok with letting others down Seek help from a coach or therapist, have some reiki or energy healing Hormones will be out of whack too, so that will need to be addressed Look at your nutrition, movement, sleep & self-care Surround yourself with those that will support you and lift you up Ask yourself “What will my life be like in 12 months if I don’t take any action to resolve this?” “What will it be like if I do take action?”

Estrogen Dominance- This means that there is an imbalance between estrogen & progesterone in the body. There is a lot to address here, so it will be in two posts. Many women experience really heavy periods after having kids. I know I did. I was like the friend in the story with doubling up on sanitary products & being reluctant to leave the house. What I have discovered is that I most likely had Estrogen Dominance (ED). I just thought it was normal, and I did nothing about it. I did end up having a partial hysterectomy, which has a long story behind it, but in part, I believe, ED was a contributing factor. During your cycle, estrogen & progesterone levels fluctuate. The week before & during your period, estrogen & progesterone levels are low. Then during the follicular phase, estrogen levels rise,& peak with ovulation. Progesterone levels also increase with ovulation. Estrogen is what makes your uterine lining grow, & progesterone will stop overgrowth & maintain the lining ready for a fertilised egg. If the egg that was released during ovulation isn’t fertilised, progesterone & estrogen levels decline & the cycle starts again. When estrogen & progesterone get out of sync, it can happen in either of two ways, which will lead to an excess of estrogen compared with progesterone. 1- Estrogen levels are high & progesterone is normal. This can happen when your body produces too much estrogen or your body doesn’t metabolise the estrogen properly, or it is a combination of both 2- Estrogen levels are normal & progesterone levels are low. This is called Relative Estrogen Dominance. Besides the annoyance of heavy periods, ED is a risk factor for breast, ovarian & endometrial cancers along with thyroid disease & autoimmune issues. So don’t ignore it!

When looking for info about hormone imbalances you will most likely find the term Estrogen Dominance (ED). It is often used to describe a commonly found hormonal imbalance in women. It is not a medical diagnosis, but rather a term that includes the symptoms that occur when estrogen is elevated relative to progesterone. The symptoms of ED can include painful periods, mood swings, irritability, short or irregular cycles, cyclical breast tenderness, heavy periods, breast cysts, anxiety and weight gain. Estrogen describes a group of hormones that are important for fertility, mental health, it protects your bones and supports cognitive health & it helps keep you feeling youthful. Estrogen makes tissues grow. It is what causes the lining of the uterus to thicken whereas progesterone allows it to mature. Progesterone is the hormone that keeps estrogen in check so it prevents excess growth.Producing enough Estrogen is important, but excess Estrogen in relation to progesterone can cause issues. There are many causes of ED. It may be linked to certain conditions such as PCOS (Poly Cysystic Ovarian Syndrome) or maybe caused by the normal fluctuations of hormones with age (perimenopause) Other suggested causes of ED include: hormone metabolism issues, low fibre diet, gut dysbiosis, increased estrogen exposure & alcohol consumption. In women who are pre-menopausal, the failure to ovulate, such as due to PCOS, In perimenopause & post menopause excess body fat and inflammation, can lead to ED. Understanding if you have ED starts with identifying why you’re experiencing the symptoms. Is it suboptimal estrogen metabolism, or is it PCOS or are you in perimenopause. Attaining a detailed health history, using comprehensive testing (eg.DUTCH Test), addressing lifestyle & emotional health helps build a plan to address the ED. When you work 1:1 with me, you have the opportunity to choose to take a DUTCH Test. 🤗

Aunty Flo tells a story about a lack of sleep 🤦‍♀️

Everything is connected. Just start with one thing. Either do something nice for yourself like taking a walk in nature or stop doing something for others. Start small. Try it and then see how it feels in your body. If it feels good . Then yay❣️Your subconscious might try to tell you it is selfish or you are too busy. Tell it to shut the f**k up. 😀

My word of the week is “Unbecoming”. Learning to unlearn what is not serving me and replacing it with what is. Letting go of giving a sh*t about what I am “assuming” that others think about me, is a big one that I am working on. Notice that I said “assuming that others think”. Because the fact is, is that we are all thinking about ourselves more than about others anyway & it is just the ego telling us bullsh*t stories. What can you “unbecome”?

Frock- up Friday❣️ lately I have actually been ditching the jeans or leggings to wear a skirt or dress or fancy pants, everyday, not just Friday. I am only going to work in my home office, and don’t have clients everyday, but frocking up makes me feel lovely and giving the ridiculous amount of clothes in my wardrobe an outing, adds to the joy. I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to clothes. I got that from my mum who was an amazing seamstress and kept many of the things she made. I have probably worn most of her frocks from the 70’s and still have them in boxes. Having run a fashion business for 16 years also added to my wardrobe bursting at the seams. I now have an addiction to thrift shopping for clothes. It is the thrill of the chase and the bargains to be had. So Frocking-up most days is my norm again. And as I said, it doesn’t have to be a dress. Just wearing anything that makes you smile is a balm for the soul. No doubt you will get a few compliments along the way too🤗

I have discovered my superpower. I am a cheerleader for women❣️ I didn’t realise that it was something that was special, it was just something I do naturally. I love to see women succeed and grow and shine in whatever way that is right for THEM. That is why I took this leap into a new business, I finally found my “jam” as one client put it🤣 I am posting on Instagram and Facebook and talking to women to hopefully get some information out to those that need it, about the transition into menopause, that I wish I had 10 years ago. There is so much that we are not taught or that is not talked about around this topic. We suffer through things that we don’t have to. I am hoping that at least some of what I am posting is landing with sone of you and causing you to ask questions of yourself or your practitioner. I would love to answer any questions you might have so DM me. ❣️

Aunty Flo tells a story about how empowering it is to talk with your friends and other women about your own journeys through the transition into menopause. You are not alone and sharing your experiences will not only help you but give other women permission to have conversations with those around them too. The more we talk about it, the less taboo it becomes. By 2030, 1 billion women will be in this stage of life. It is time to throw off the yoke of hundreds of years of patriarchal oppression and get out and celebrate the freaking awesomeness of being a wise, audacious, kick-ass woman❣️

Aunty Flo tells a tale about society wanting women in middle age to feel invisible. F**k that!

Thyroid- an important part of the complex endocrine system, made up of glands that produce, store and release hormones into the bloodstream. thyroid gland uses iodine from the food you eat to produce two main hormones, Triiodothyronine (T3) and Thyroxine (T4) hypothalamus produces thyroid releasing hormone (TRH) which tells the pituitary gland whether it needs more or less T3 and T4. The pituitary then sends out thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in response to this message, which lets the thyroid know if it should boost or diminish production of T3 or T4 Knowing how much TSH is circulating can also help you discover whether your thyroid is overactive (hyperthyroidism) or underactive (hypothyroidism).

Thyroid testing Having a full thyroid panel blood test should be an annual thing for women. Generally your GP will only order a blood test that includes TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone) which will only tell you how much TSH your pituitary gland is making in order to get the thyroid to make thyroid hormones. To get a better understanding of the overall functioning of the thyroid gland you will need a more indepth blood test. Why is this important? Thyroid hormones are involved in many functions in the body including energy production, controlling weight, digestion, brain function, heart function, bone maintenance etc. If the thyroid is under producing or over producing thyroid hormones (T3 & T4), then symptoms will arise that will affect various systems in the body, and present similarly to other hormone issues. It is imperative for taking steps to address symptoms, that the cause be known, otherwise some treatments can exacerbate issues as the real cause is not being attended to.
