The Minister for Transport Infrastructure has decided the LXRP will build a separated, on-road, Copenhagen-style cycling corridor on Queens Avenue, Caulfield.

We are very concerned to learn the LXRP will not investigate any of the suggestions Council put on behalf of the community to reduce parking loss and boost safety through the detailed design phase.

The Minister has dismissed Council’s recommendations without evidence, including the suggestion to move the kerb on the western side of Queens Avenue.

The Minister’s decision will understandably come as a major disappointment to residents, after more than 900 people took the time to share their views and suggestions.

Council’s focus will now be on holding the LXRP to account through the detailed design to ensure the process is transparent, and the design is safe.

The Caulfield Racecourse Reserve Trust are proposing a designated off-leash area that would allow dog owners to exercise their pets and make the Reserve more enjoyable for everyone. 🚶‍♀️🦮

🇦🇺 hosted a Sorry Day smoking ceremony at Glen Eira Town Hall on Sunday to signify the journey towards healing and reconciliation.

Today is Mabo Day, commemorating the landmark 1992 High Court decision that recognised the land rights of the Meriam people, led by Eddie Mabo.

The High Court overturned the doctrine of terra nullius (land belonging to no one) at the time of European settlement, acknowledging that Indigenous Australians have lived on and cared for this land for thousands of years.

Following the Mabo decision, Australia’s Federal Parliament passed the Native Title Act 1993, which established a legal framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' native title claims throughout Australia.

🌈 Today, on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), we reflect on our journey towards equality while acknowledging the challenges that remain for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Today, 68% of LGBTQIA+ employees aren't comfortable enough to be out at work, and 2 in 3 LGBTQIA+ youth face abuse due to their identity.

Discrimination persists in public, at work, and even in government policies.

But IDAHOBIT isn't just about recognising the struggles; it's about raising awareness and standing up against discrimination in all its forms. 💪✨
