Recently I’ve been feeling really low and anyone who is close to me knows I’m usually the upbeat and positive one. I don’t know if it’s owning a business in these stressful and worrying times, or the fact I’m still waiting for my mortgage to go through (since June) or that we’ve all got nothing to look forward to like holiday and events ect. Well enough is enough I’m sick of feeling sorry for myself so I’ve been listening to podcast and this book has been recommended. I’ll document each day and see what improvements it makes. Has anyone read this book or listened to the podcast? Any law of attraction tips?

You may remember that in lockdown we sent hair more than 250 product goodie bags to our NHS and key worker clients and the friends they nominated as our way of saying thank you for their heroic work to help us all.

Now that the salon is re-open (touch wood), we wanted to do more, and show our continued support. So, in October, we are offering 20% off cut and colour appointments for all NHS staff and key workers on Monday to Wednesday with our fabulous stylists Victoria, Lara and Joe.

The new normal

Did you know we have disposable towels and gowns for every client? Although it is more hygienic this way, you may be worried about the environmental factors of producing more plastic waste. The brand we chose are WAY more expensive than their competitors but they are 100% compostable. We are keeping you safe and choosing to respect our planet at the same time.

We have just been advised by our industry body, the National Hair and Beauty Federation that the Government has now made it mandatory for clients of hair salons in Enland to wear a face covering (mask).
From today, and until further notice, please come to your appointment with a suitable face covering - we can supply a disposable mask if required - otherwise you will not be able to complete your appointment with us. This is a legal requirement.
The only exceptions are those with a certified medical condition. Please let us know in advance if this is the case, as we may need to change your appointment to a different stylist on a different date. We will need to see evidence of why you are exempt.
Our aim is not only to comply with the new guidelines, but also to keep all our clients, and all our team, safe and well. Thank you for your understanding at what is a difficult time for everyone.
As a reminder, our salon safety and hygiene etiquette for clients is set out in the image above.
Our team will continue to wear visors, together with masks for certain aspects of our face to face work (as set out in the Government guidelines for salon staff and supported by the NHBF). Members of our team who are considered vulnerable will wear both a mask and visor.

The new normal. Everyday gets slightly easier. We are getting used to the visors and the PPE a little more each day. have put so much effort in to ensure the client journey is still wonderful despite all the extra measures. Thank goodness our tools haven’t had to change, don’t know what I’d do without my and a massive thank you to the who have made the rules so easy to follow.

Gosh I had missed these two! Sisters really are your best friends.

Truthfully reopening after lockdown has been the most challenging time of my life. We have had a LOT of obstacles to tackle with one thing or another. Working 14 hours days 7 days a week just to make ends meet. The thing is when you can make someone feel their best and give them their confidence back all from doing their hair, that’s when you know all of the hard and stressful parts are worth it. Thank you to our wonderful clients who appreciate us. You make our day more than you will ever know!

A little secret about me. ⠀

Whilst doing my Wella Master Colour Expert I wanted to quit every day. I was the bottom of the class and this was a position I had never been in before. Imagine, I had never used Wella colour in a salon environment before, so I had to learn the WHOLE colour chart from scratch, learn the development times, learn the colour wheel ect whilst learning the scientific part of each colour and how it works. I was honestly the lowest of the low and I really don’t know how the Wella educators put up with my 1000’s of questions! I wouldn’t have got through it without those incredible people so a massive THANK YOU to you Wella angels.

After a whole year of studying I finally graduated my Master Colour Expert and I cried. 😭Well I had cried the whole year whilst doing it I had struggled that much, but boy was it worth it. It made me appreciate colour to a whole new level and more to the point how the hell do people think they can colour their hair at home when we study for so long to make sure the chemicals going on their head are going to do what we want them to? P.S. Hair babes it’s no wonder we correct so many box dyes is it? ⠀

Today is my first day of holiday and having some time away from the salon. It’s a time to reflect, relax and be re inspired.

With Lent starting, we'll all be trying to kickstart those New Years' Resolutions which quickly fell by the wayside. And we'll always have excuses to not bother after a couple of days.
The most important thing to remember is you're always stronger than your excuses, whether you just want to cut down on unhealthy treats a little or make a huge lifestyle change, you can do it.

⁠⠀ I love blonde hair! With blondes no one said it was easy but it sure looks good though. If you're feeling a little dull and your blonde doesn't sparkle, ask your stylist to weave extra fine baby lights through the front for added dimension. That way it doesn't look artificial and flows naturally from your root!

When you're busy running a business and doing everything that entails (a lot of sacrifices), it can be hard to take the time to step back and appreciate everything you've achieved. But finding things like this really drives home just how far we've come: from public toilet to award-winning salon in just three years!
Thank you to everyone whose been on this journey with us so far. Here's to many more amazing years to come!

My hairdressing background started at Sassoon, I even did my work experience there when I was 14. The training at Sassoon is renowned as the best in the world, and it is… but being an apprentice isn’t easy as most of you hair babes know! Scrubbing the floors with toothbrushes and being treated like the dirt on the floor itself. I can honestly say I hated every second and the amount of times my mum would say to me “Melissa you are wasting yourself” and make me sign up at college just incase I changed my mind about being a hairdresser. 😂 ⁠Who else struggled as an apprentice?
