So we were back in the studio. Unable to practice due to my work schedule, a 2 day stint shooting camera for Premier Boxing Championship on FS1, interfering with our practice days.
But we were back today. And it's really sounding tight. Still tough areas, especially because we missed a week. But overall core/ foundation is at an unprecedented level.
By the time we get done with our current practice routine of playing the set up to the song we're working on for the night. Our set will have changed and our ability to attack said set will be an a new found level of excellence.
Confidence and morale is up as we broke down Follow Me Down. We grinded and grinded away at the rust and oxidation to reveal the shinny new alloy metal lurking just below the surface.
This band and current endeavor is a lesson in persistence and determination. With all the set backs, starts and stops, Most band would have given up and quit by now.
But we're still here. And I have a good feeling about this. That our time is near. We just had to wait for the rest of the world to catch up and we had to grow into the awesome rolls we've been given as a gift.

So we were going to do practice today but coming from shooting eng for tomorrow night's PBC premiere boxing championship on FS1, it just didn't work out logistically.
We will pick it up next week and continue our spring cleaning of our songs. Cleaning and tightening them up.
Playing this kind of music can be arduous and tedious. Think of hitting your head against concrete over and over.
It's like a tent caving in on itself self as you fix and prop one area up another area starts to fall and decay. As does everything in this universe.

Caterwaul
Worked on Caterwaul. Broke down the chorus completely. Even slowed it down quite a bit. Sam and Shingo gave the notes and rhythm a tune up as I worked on certain kick patterns and sub patterns within the beat that had gotten sloppy over the years. Especially since breaking my third toe back in August of 2016. That particular beat has suffered considerably.
We also broke down the verse as well. It's almost magical what a little wood shedding will do. It took our sound from fuzzy analog to the pristine clarity of HD digital audio in a matter of minutes. The two riffs really began to cut though sonically as they literally cut through the air in unison, as we all played on the same page for the first time in a while on those two parts.
Morale is up. Unfortunately I'm working next Monday and Tuesday so we'll have to miss next week. But We feel the work we put in tonight combined with the last couple weeks will carry through and cement as our new foundation for utter djentastic duh-Jent dominance in the new Djent order

So The Inner Bright were back in the practice studio. We ran the first half of the set and then worked on dissonance and Stockholm.

Well gang no practice this week I'm shooting one the last D'fenders games of the year and sam can't do Tuesday. But we'll pick it up next week.
Our goal is to get out there and play some shows again.
Dark New Day
The Inner Bright were actually able to put together a practice. We have humble goals claw our way back to the top of the competency and proficiency hill, Or in our case, more like the mount Everest of ex*****on; And be the old guys whom out play everyone at, oh I don't know, you name the generic club on sunset strip.
There's only so many left.... cough "Whisky a go go." Lol. Anyway it felt good to be at it again after the better part of a month.
With my wrist and ankle bothering me. And Shingo's endless flu and my unpredictable work schedule. We are fortunate just to be back in our home. Our studio.
Despite the obvious rust and cobwebs. There is something new or old in the core of what the 3 of us created. We are veterans of "the duh-Jent" and the Inner bright sound.
It's now apart of us like skin. I listened to Alan watts talking about when you let go of it that's when you have truly arrived, truly transcended. You're no longer trying, you're doing, no longer doing, you are.
To let go of it is to find it. To lose your life is to find it.

I had to work a few practice nights and Shingo was sick for a few weeks... but we're back in the practice studio.
We clawed our way back into a semblance of coherency and efficiency in our ex*****on of the songs and then we were off a month.
Back to square one.
Crimson Song
Here is a synth track I just finished. In fact the signature beat in the song is the beat I wrote in my behind my writing process video. I wrote a bass line and ran with it.
Lots of odd-meter, poly-meter, and metric modulation.
Often, beats written and utilized in these synth songs end up being used in the The Inner Bright music. They also can be added as an interlude.
These synths create a vivid and accurate way to conceptualize beat ideas, working out kinks before they are learned and brought to the table.
Obviously, Sam and Shingo write material as well. Being a 3 piece the writing duties tend to get shared evenly.
We definitely have a comfortable process by which we have refined over the years.
