Light Hotspot Chain Variables Activated
Helium Community!
The core team has activated the chain variables for Light Hotspots! We will be monitoring all components of the network (router, data transfer, Hotspots, Validators, Challenges, Core, Node, and ETL) for the next hour or so and get the network through at least 2 consensus group elections.
After about 30 blocks, Explorer will update automatically, but your Hotspot may have a flopping Online/Offline status, but your Hotspot is fine.
At this time, PoC activity will fluctuate and Validators will starting seeing gRPC activity.
We will make another update shortly.

Saw this post on Reddit and figured it was too good not to share.
The Truth About Helium And Your Role In The Project
This is something I've wanted to post about for a while and I think after seeing the current frustration with the project, now is a good time to do so.
If you own a hotspot, you are not Helium's client. You are their contractor. Some of you don't seem to understand this. If you (the contractor) are unhappy with your rewards, the general trend of the network, the price of HNT, etc, you are welcome to quit your job as a contractor at any point. Unplug your hotspot and move on to another project. Trust me, Helium is not going to "die" because a couple thousand of their lowest performers unplugged their hotspot.
For every 10 hotspots providing terrible coverage, there is 1 fantastic deployment that is doing more for the network than those 10 hotspots combined. I think there any many people in this subreddit right now that are in this weird limbo phase. They are upset about decreasing rewards, but they aren't quite ready to jump ship and move on. I'm telling you, it is okay to move on. If your hotspot isn't performing well now, no update, no network change, no announcement is going to change that. Adapt and evolve your setup/placement, or acknowledge that you are okay with your current earnings. If you can't do either of those, then go ahead and unplug.
There is nothing "unfair" about the network or how we are rewarded. You are rewarded handsomely for providing good unique coverage, and you are rewarded poorly for providing bad redundant coverage. That is it. There is nothing complex about it.
This is essentially *survive and advance*. The strong will continue to deploy good hotspots, while the weak will eventually sell their hotspots to people who will spend the time, money, and effort to produce quality deployments.....And guess what....That is a good thing.
Moral of the story (and I apologize if this is a rude way to put this) is that Helium doesn't need you. There are thousands of other people out there eager and willing to help this project grow. You don't owe them anything. My point of this post is not to discourage people, but to actually encourage people that it is okay to move along. No hard feelings.
