Norwood United for Peace and Justice

Community social justice group working for peace and justice in Norwood to ensure everyone feels welcome

The mission of Norwood United for Peace and Justice starts with identifying racial injustice in our own town. Through collaborating with town officials, school leaders, the police department, clergy, therapists, the health department, and community members, we look to not only fix these problems, but educate our community along the way. Norwood United for Peace and Justice has the belief that our community truly becomes united when it begins to fight for what is morally right.

Hello Norwood! Do you know about Juneteenth? A lot of Americans don't.
Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. This happened a full two and a half years AFTER the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.
As a part of a collaborative effort, folks from neighboring towns (Walpole, Mansfield, Dedham, and Norwood) are volunteering to help with Walpole's 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration.
The group is seeking individuals to:
-sit on an education subcommittee to create historically accurate content to inform attendees
- help with logistics (set up/break down, spreading awareness/promoting the event)
- connect with to local groups that celebrate Black culture - dance troupes, choirs, spoken word artists, poets, etc. **some compensation is available
This is the perfect chance to amplify this important celebration and help bring our neighboring communities together.
Message us or comment and we will connect you with more info.

We want to acknowledge the pain and fear of our Asian American and Pacific Islander neighbors in wake of the senseless murders in Atlanta this week. There is no place for race based hate in Norwood or in the country. We stand with you as we are all Norwood United.

We encourage you to learn more about the history of racism and violence against Asian American and Pacific Islanders and how the Coronavirus pandemic has caused a related surge. https://www.npr.org/2021/03/17/978055571/anti-asian-attacks-rise-during-pandemic-read-nprs-stories-on-the-surge-in-violen

Brown girl brown girl
What do you see
I see a Vice President
That looks like me
Brown girl brown girl
What do you do
I fought I hoped
I spoke what was true
Brown girl brown girl
What do you know
That there are strong women
Who want me to grow
Brown girl brown girl
What do you feel
That
Will help us all heal
Brown girl brown girl
What do you see
A world that sees my skin
before it sees me
Brown girl brown girl
Whatcha gonna do
March, fight and create
Till I make this world new
Brown girl brown girl
How are you so strong
'Cause I got Queens in my blood
To help push me along
