Steady consistent progress is the best way to any goal and we know that, that's why year in year out we make consistent progress and so do all our students. We have a plan to get you better from day one when you step on the mat as a white belt to when you finally step on the mat as a black belt. Happy New Year everyone. 2023 Was an amazing year for the club and we know 2024 will be even better because we have an amazing group of coaches, competitors and people at the club who are dedicated to improving every day. 2024 is going to bring more success, more wins, more improvement, great support for the occasional loss and as always more great people to share the journey with. We have big ambitions but like every year I'm certain we'll surpass them. Bring on 2024 and Viva SBG 🦍💪

Proud to be having our next grading this coming Saturday at 11am hosted at SBG Crewe and free for all members of SBG Crewe, Shrewsbury, Telford and Shropshire.
Lots of hard work has been put in since our last grading and looking forward to people getting the recognition of that work.

Full Schedule and matches for this weeksend's sub only interclub hosting at SBG Crewe
Location SBG Crewe, unit 7d, marshfield bank, Crewe, CW28UY
Time date 27th August23' 11am-2pm
All rules as per IBJJF official rules with the following amendments
1. Competitors Will be matched to the closest individual based on weight, belt and age, no weigh ins so please be honest with weights
2. Match lengths White 6mins, Blue 7mins, Purple 8mins, Brown 9 Mins, Black 10 mins (complete novice category 5min under three months training only)
3. Points only awarded for submissions 1point per IBJJF legal sub, match will only end at the end of time limit or in the event of injury or disqualification
4. Ways to win, by accumulating more submissions, over the course of both matches, than your opponent or by DQ
5. Penalties will be awarded as per IBJJF rules after 3 penalty warnings from the referee a Positional penalty will apply whereby the player who has accumulated 3 penalties warnings will start in bottom quarter position (turtle position). The other player will start in top quarter position in a position of their choosing but with no hooks or submissions in place
6. Each player will have one gi match and one no gi match against the same opponent, each lasting the duration of their category and must take part in both
7. Referees will be paid and will work a maximum of 1 hour and will be required to attend rules meeting prior to event any brown or black belt from any club can offer to referee

Very few people that do Jiu Jitsu understand this, the GOAT knows though, your time in practice should be spent improving your Jiu Jitsu not trying to get tougher or to win training.

A reminder that the children's class will not be on over the summer holidays but they will return once schools reopen
Guard passing is one of the most difficult aspects of Jiu Jitsu to get to grips with, as with all sports timing is crucial, applying the correct technique for the correct situation can massively turn things in your favour. Forcing the wrong technique can lead you down the path to inefficiency and defeat.
This month our members app will be updated with over 2 hours of footage of head coach, 3rd degree Black Belt and national champion detailing passes and tactics for all major reactions from the guard player so that you can keep them constantly under pressure and develop confidence from the top position.

Sometimes it’s easy to be so focused on the future that we don’t take the time to appreciate how far we’ve already come. When I look round the gym at the moment or when I roll with people I can’t help but be impressed and pleased with everyone’s progress. Take ten minutes over this weekend just to sit and appreciate the improvement that you have made in Jiu Jitsu and the rest of your life and be proud of yourselves. We have a great team here at SBG and I’m incredibly proud of our growth and improvement. One Tribe One Vibe 🦍
