On the last day of the year 🥹

In honor of UK Black History Month & World Mental Health Day here is a selection of works from a show I acted as curator and artist along with many other members of Black Mans Candor, an organization at University of Central Florida dedicated to giving black men and women a space to talk about stigmatized issues within Black masculine culture.

The portraits I took of members and officers of the org explore their relationship to self awareness and art practice. I sat each of them down to discuss what it means to use art as a tool for self healing. They revealed to me a particular struggle that their practice allowed to work through and here are the results. I think it’s great to put faces to the issues that people face because as Black people it can be difficult to carry such vulnerability everyday, often resorting masking our internal battles whilst quietly suffering. It was a joy documenting these soft moments, often ending in smiles and relaxed (yet posed) contemplation. I hope you enjoy!

Where will we be heard is still on at Studio Voltaire until Oct 29th!

Here’s some bad art I made on ‘s new iPad, I love it. Might as well add it to the archives!

Last Sunday I led a workshop and taught a beautiful group of people how to crochet. We discussed poetry and creative writing by Audre Lorde and James Baldwin. Can’t Wilson to complete our collective piece!

I’ve been thinking a lot about this poem and quote in relation to social responsibility.

I am wondering how much I can hold, and how much I need to be held, wishing I was less demanding and more resilient but this body I stand in wobbles like a leaning table, and I am not the hero the little me believed to be.

More like a slow, country yeast. A healthy bacteria whom needs warmth to rise, not a wintering bloom.

Who knows really at this evening hour.

It was such a pleasure to get to know Danielle and the SV team. The work that their doing is amazing and I’m so happy to be advocating for Black Trans lives by spreading the word and work of such an amazing artist. Exciting News! I will be leading a creative workshop in March where participants have the opportunity to contribute and be paid to share the work we create in a conjoining exhibition. There will be treats and materials provided to create a piece of work as well as guided instruction from me. I’d love to see you there!

I in wo it’s late at night but I didn’t want to go two days in a row without posting, so here you go! I went to a wonderful workshop last week aimed at young black & q***r visionaries in need of funding opportunities. Feel free to take some of these tips for your own project ideas!

Hello there, here are some restful scenes from the city to close out the week. Be on the look out for the full moon tonight, apparently it’s supposed to be bringing positive and new beginnings, especially for those who didn’t feel these thing in January

I love taking moments like this to just appreciate the beauty that we walk past everyday. If we tilt our heads and our perception lin the right way we can partake in these delights more often. Right now I’m on my self care hippie high horse since I’ve started using this meditation app called . They’re giving out 1 year subscriptions for free and I feel quite nice.

This year for me has started off with a lot of anxiety about everything thing from the state of the world to the state of my mind. Even getting to the point of hopelessness. I think these experiences and feeling are worth keeping track of. These personal histories place ourselves in something greater, making everything, including yourself seem a bit more important and valuable.

We need to remember what it was like during these times, where we found moments of peace in the chaos of backwards legislation and economic uncertainty. We will need the nostalgia, the rose tinted reflections and the lessons, so hood on to them. Share them, claim your space in history no matter how big or small you may feel. We will need it. Can I get an Amen!? Haha, okay the Sunday sermon is over, by for now 👋🏾!
