Becoming The Whole You
Safe Haven for Exploring the Journey to Wholeness
MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH:
[Health Lesson]
Our balance system is one of the three sensory systems that we have. Our proprioceptive system ‘balance system’ aka vestibular system communicates with our brain about our body’s position in space, motion, head position, and spatial orientation. It’s essentially our ‘balance system.’ It’s located in our muscles and joints and provides the body with a sense of awareness. Stress can cause you to feel dizzy and disoriented or you may experience cognitive fuzziness and an inability to focus/think clearly/remember things. You may feel ‘off balance.’ Stress can incite or worsen health conditions, such as vertigo. You may have heard someone say or perhaps you have said, ‘my body feels off balance.’ Your body’s physiological reactions to stress, environmental stimuli, and internal private experiences can and will impact your sensory systems.
I encourage you to listen to your body by asking the following questions:
- How does my body feel in space at this moment?
- How is my current environment impacting my proprioceptive sensory system?
- How are my internal private experiences impacting the communication between my body and my brain?
- Does my body feel balanced?

You also shed light on areas that have been tucked beneath the....
Tonight, we wait. Want to read this while we "wait"? Written by: Jessica Styles
Tonight, we wait. As we wait on the results of the 2020 election, I am reminded of the former research paper I wrote about "waiting", "patience", and "resilience". What I learned in the research paralleled what I have experienced anecdotally. Stress is inevitable, for everyone. It is not (necessarily) about the actua...

The journey to wholeness is a uniquely personal and beautiful experience that requires cocooning before the transformation.
What does the butterfly theme on BTWY mean?
"With the butterfly's waiting cut short, its wings were hopelessly unformed."
The butterfly theme embedded within "Becoming the Whole You" was inspired by the book "When the Heart Waits: Spiritual Direction for Life's Sacred Questions" by Sue Monk Kidd. She defines soul as psyche and says that it is often symbolized as a butterfly. Her analogy between the soul and a butterfly metamorphosing captured the essence of what it entails to endure the process to pursue wholeness.
What is the psychological definition of "wholeness"?
Wholeness by psychological definition is a “function of self-realization, and only when we know who we are can we liberate our capacity for love and compassion and create a future that supports our highest aspirations by contributing to the well-being of everyone.”
