Hi All! Did you know that October is AAC awareness month??? AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. This means for those who may struggle with understanding verbals, have or understand limited verbals or are non-verbal, it gives other forms of communication. This includes, but is not limited to, things like pictures, sign language, facial expressions and gestures, photographs, written words, and symbols. This expands communication methods and makes items, wants and needs, more accessible.

Did you know that ABA therapy is a huge tool in helping people with autism learn more communicative skills among other and decrease behaviors. ABA therapy focuses on the science behind learning and behavior. It's focuses on what happened directly before a behavior happened and directly after. The negative of it is we know sometimes feelings play a role into behaviors but that is not taken into an account. It's something that has helped many people with autism and it's never too late to try it. I hope your all having wonderful days.

Hello everyone! I'm sorry I've been a little MIA the last couple weeks, life got a little wild, but I'm ready to get back to it. I think it's important to give ourselves breaks when it all gets too much and remember that it's okay to take time when you need it. And when there's an autism diagnoses of a loved one, plans and feelings and everything take time to process. Sometimes plans are great. But sometimes life has other plans, and that's okay too. Have a great day all, stay well and stay kind.

Happy sunday! They always say laughter is the best medicine. Everyday has moments when you can choose to either laugh or cry. When life gets tough, specifically when the kids you live with or work with are trying your patience. When they get into the paint and paint themselves even though you JUST gave them a shower. Well you have to laugh and then join in and paint yourself too. Life's too short to take it all so serious. I hope you find joy in your everyday life and you find something to make you laugh even in the mundane. 💙

Did you know that most people with autism have issues with their motor development? They struggle with either fine motor, which includes things like writing, tying shoes or playing an instrument. Or they struggle with gross motor which includes things like walking, throwing or catching, or riding a bike. And some people have both. Occupational therapy can help work through some of these issues, but many struggle with them their whole life. But just because coordination and motor skills are lacking doesn't mean there aren't other things these people aren't amazing at and it balances it out. And struggles or not, you just keep moving.
Did you know that autism can be reliably diagnosed as early as age 2? Early intervention is key for setting up a child for future success. Early intervention can helps improve learning, communication, and social skills. The diagnosis is not one many want to hear, but you make you own story. And part of making sure your child has the best chance at happiness, and for any caregiver or family/friend dynamic, early intervention is the best thing to do for your child.
When we decided to make a podcast to promote Autism Awareness, I didn't realize how much work it was going to take to put it together. I figured it would be pretty easy. I mean, my sister is a year and a half younger than me, and she has autism so I've been around it my whole life. And I spend 8+ hours a day working with autistic teenagers. I thought it would be easy. But so far, this project has been way bigger than I ever thought it would be and is really exhausting. BUT it is something I am super passionate about and has impacted my whole life. There is so much that isn't known or isn't widely spread. There is a lack of understanding from those who have never truly been around autism. But maybe you have a friend, or sibling or a niece or nephew that you want to understand a little bit better. And if we can help just one person be more accepting and kind and understand on a deeper level than all this exhaustion is worth it. So we have a difficult task ahead of us, but we choose to be the change we wish to see.
Have a great night everyone, we will see you tomorrow.

Did you know that Autism spectrum disorder effects 1 in 68 children? And it is 5x more likely for boys to be diagnosed than girls. The diagnosis is never what a parent or friend necessarily wants to hear. Nobody wants to know their child, family member or friend is going to be affected by something their whole life. But it's not the end of the world. It's just the beginning of a new chapter.
Did you know that Dan Aykroyd from Ghostbusters is on the autism spectrum? Autism is all around us and can effect everyone in different ways. Join us on our journey of becoming Autism Advocates and spread love, hope, ideas and facts to help everyone get a better understanding of what autism is.
