People on probation shouldn’t be imprisoned for non-crime supervision violations like crossing county lines without permission. State supervision won’t be a truly effective tool at reducing recidivism or saving taxpayer dollars unless we pursue reforms that reduce unnecessary incarceration and reward good behavior.
currently has 280,000 people under state supervision. To reduce that number, as well as the prison population, we are working to create legislation that safely reduces unnecessary and expensive incarceration while improving public safety, bolstering our workforce, and strengthening families.
We need our lawmakers to pass legislation that contains common sense reforms such as streamlined processes for granting early termination of probation, in order to safely decrease probation officer caseloads and provide much-needed relief to people who have been successful on supervision.
