3 stuck valves in this head on Eldon’s 1941 John Deere B. Still debating on what level of repair I do to this thing. I’m leaning towards just getting it running for now versus making things perfect.

Today was a busy and rewarding day. My new friend Eldon has entrusted me to be the new caretaker of his father’s and his 1939 John Deere B #116368. This tractor was acquired by his father in 1987 where he used it with a sickle bar mower in Wisconsin. His father intended to restore it, but passed away before being able to do so. Eldon wanted to do the same, but time passes quickly and this is quite the project with the engine and many other components being seized. My goal is to get the tractor operational again and then work on cosmetics. Thank you, Eldon! What a great guy. This Allis Chalmers tractor was one of the first electric tractors in 1959. It produced electricity from fuel cells, which unlike a battery where electrical energy is stored, these generated electrical energy from chemical energy in the fuel cells. The electric motor powering the tractor was rated for 20 horsepower. It’s displayed at the McLeod County Historical Society Museum in Hutchinson MN, home of “Orange Spectacular”, the largest Allis Chalmers show in the world.

The G doesn’t even know this thing is back there.

Truck Transmission Used To Start Dead Tractors (2009)

Larry Randall collects old tractors. They often won't start after sitting unused for long periods of time.

He didn't want to tow the tractors to start them because that requires another person, and it can be hard on the tractor's starter and ring gear.

To solve the problem, he uses a 4-speed truck transmission to start the dead tractor through their pto shafts. He welded the GM pickup transmission to a 3-pt. hitch frame off an old implement, then mounted the frame on the 3-pt. hitch on his 1952 Ford N tractor.
