We are incredibly excited to announce Grammy Award-winning flutist Molly Barth as this years Houston Flute Fest guest artist!

Flute Fest will be April 29th at the University Of Houston Moore’s School of Music. Free for all flute club members, Flute Fest will feature vendors, clinics, concerts, and competitions. For more information or to register as a member, head over to our website!

The Houston Flute Club is excited to announce the return of the Byron Hester competition! The Byron Hester competition is open to flutist of all ages and includes a grand prize of $1500 along with an invitation to perform at the HFC’s flute fest in 2022. Attention all high school juniors and seniors! Want to know what it’s like to study music at a tier one university all while studying the TMEA All-State music? Then tune in on zoom Sunday October 25th for Flute Day at the University of Houston! This virtual masterclass, available to flutist of all ages, led by Melissa Suhr, Peggy Russell, and Aralee Dorough will discuss life as a UH music student and even features current UH flute studio members playing the all-state études!

If you’re working on the all-state études or considering majoring in music you won’t want to miss this great opportunity to meet and learn from these great three teachers!

On this weeks meet the board, i'd like to introduce out vice president, Rebecca Powell Garfield!

Rebecca Powell Garfield is a professional flute and piccolo player in the Houston area. She spent 6 years as Piccolo with the Houston Symphony and is currently the Principal Flutist of the Austin Symphony as well as 2nd flute and piccolo of the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra (ROCO). She also performs often with the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra and Houston Ballet Orchestra and has played with the Baltimore Symphony, the California Symphony, Napa Valley Symphony and Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra. Her performances have been heard on NPR’s Performance Today, the soundtrack for Spy Kids 2, and on several recordings with the Houston Grand Opera, ROCO, and the Houston Symphony, including the Grammy winning recording of Wozzeck.

Rebecca says her favorite thing about the flute club is the friendships she has formed through her volunteer work. She also says she loves getting to meet so many different flutists from all over the area at the annual Flute Fest.

Over the next few weeks the HFC would like to introduce our board members. This week we will be starting with out board president, Vicky Williamson!

Vicky teaches flute and performs in the Houston Area and currently performs with Brazos Breeze Flute Choir and Symphony North. Vicky's favorite thing about the flute club is that the HFC brings together so many flutists from all levels together from all around the Houston area, especially during our Flute Fest held every spring!
