Our guest Daniel Mendelsohn described Sappho 31 as a reaction shot- like the moment in an action movie when the hero’s world goes quiet, everything moves in slow motion and the sound is muffled. Give our episode a listen to learn more 💙

Is this how you feel about Sappho too? In our upcoming episode, we discuss Sappho, her work, and her reputation! Tune in Feb 1!

A little quote from our interview with Daniel Mendelsohn on Sappho. Prose is what walks, but poetry dances.
Out Feb 1st!

23/01/2021

We are SO excited to introduce February’s poet- Sappho! Sappho is a woman whose reputation reaches far and wide, though very little is actually known about her. Perhaps the most prominent thing about her poetry is how powerful and relatable it is, to us as to the ancient Greeks. She writes about love, attraction and longing- something we all experience.
Don’t know anything about Sappho? Don’t worry- stay tuned to learn more 💛

From this month’s poem, translated by Alisa Matyunina

Tsvetaeva’s sister was going to get married to a man she loved. Though him and Tsvetaeva clearly shared a connection, she was so happy for her sister that she wrote this poem to honour the fact that they were aching not for each other.
