Evergreen Garden School
A waldorf inspired early childhood program
Happy first week of school! We’re back with a bang introducing new faces and new friendships!
As the children in our classes move closer to 5 years old, social connections, specifically with their peers become more and more important. Consistent positive interaction amongst peers in early childhood promotes higher self esteem, confidence, overall happiness and the ability to lead.
Our role as early childhood professionals is to ensure a planned space that promotes collaborative play, to be present without being an intruder and to let go of judgment as we guild the children through conflict. It is a joy to see, document and make visible how a child shows themself to the world.
Here we are! Collaboration amongst colleagues is the foundation of our community and we love having this time to reflect and set intentions to welcome in the school year together! 🌲
Happy Father’s Day Dads!

Welcome back Spring!
And THAT, friends, is a wrap on this special Valentine’s Day. We love you! 💕
Holiday preparations are here, Winter comes tomorrow and for many of us, this season comes with plans for gifts, meals, treats, crafts, decorations, travel, cleaning, guests...
When we look towards nature, we see the opposite of this constant, motion and activity. The earth is quiet. The plants are dormant and animals are storing away food for the cold months or preparing to sink into rest and hibernation.
It is no accident that so many festivals are planned for these dark days. Celebrations of light, community, sharing — these remind us to carry the gifts of warmth with us into the quiet of winter and what can often feel like a long darkness. At the time of the longest nights, we find joyful celebrations of returning light.
Tomorrow is GivingTuesday and we are launching our Winter Fundraising Campaign!
EGS was able to start from scratch this year with the generous support of our community. Starting one preschool, let alone two locations was a leap of faith, and you caught us. Our EGS families and greater community provided the necessary funds that made our mission a thriving reality.
As a nonprofit we rely on continued generosity from those of you who are able to give and we are deeply grateful for your support!
Please share with your loved ones as our hope is to reach more families and continue to provide rich and joyful education for the sweet children we are honored to be guiding on their way.
Many thanks!
Come little leaves said the wind one day,
Come over the meadow with me and play,
Put on your dresses of red and gold,
For summer is gone and the day grow cold.
“Jimmy Acorn lived at the top of a great, big oak tree.
From there he could look out and see everything there was to see. When the wind blew, he held on tight and swayed to and fro, to and fro. Never did he ever think he would want to leave a place as lovely as this…”
Each week children take the story and expand on it through crafts, song and movement. The unigue story of each week is at the root of our curriculum, one of the threads that ties the days together as well as the culmination of each day’s activities. This week the children felted “Jimmy Acorns” and sewed pouches for him to sleep in.
Welcome to September!
We can’t wait to have the children roll into their new schools next Monday.
We are ready to get the year underway!
And after today we have tables with short legs and cubbies also with short legs and a gnome home almost ready for its cedar bark shingles and a really nice sign and a boy in a pile of boxes…don’t mess up his box house!
Little bunnies in the making!
Focus.
Let it be cultivated, free from intervention when possible.
In arts.
In play.
In all things.
For where there is focus there is calm. And where there is calm there is space for thought, for curiosity and for creativity to grow.
This is my garden, I rake with care.
These are the seeds I plant in there.
The sun will shine,
The rain will fall,
And my garden will blossom
And grow straight and tall.
The cycles and natural rhythm of the seasons are an integral part of our curriculum and daily routine at EGS.
In exploration of natural systems and in celebration of springs arrival, the children soak, then plant wheat berries. They tend them along with the other plants in the yard and watch them flourish with attention and care.
Join Teacher Danika for a morning of movement, connection, and fun!
This family yoga class, suitable for all ages, will be a wonderful opportunity to connect with your kiddos through yoga poses, mindfulness, games, and stories.
The plant sale will be open 10:30–2p.
We will have an assortment of native and non-native, drought tolerant plants, supplied by Wysdom Fioravanti, and Danny and Shannon Lange.
A percentage of all proceeds will be donated to our school to help us keep growing this already thriving community.
We would love to see you all there! 🌱
Breath in, breath out.
The oscillation between teacher held, and child lead, free play carries us through each day, each week.
Our weekly rhythm is consistent, intentional and each moment, be it an in, or an out breath, holds just as much significance in our student’s development.
At EGS, our approach to time spent with young children is built around connection.
Where can we, as teachers, weave a thread that ties life together for the children. Where can we expand their understanding of the world in a way that is relevant, purposeful, imaginative and builds on what they already know to be true?
Story telling provides a natural way to do just this. This week, the class is hearing the story of The Stellar’s Jay and the Milk. This is a chain story adapted from a Turkish Folktale, in which each piece builds on the other, reinforcing how all things are intertwined—from the water, to the trees, to the grass, to the milk from a cow. This connection is not only comforting for the children but it helps them create framework from which to build their capacity to learn new things about the world ♾️
