Indonesian Police Visit the Residence of the ULMWP Chief Executive for the Saireri Region, Intimidating Not to Support West Papua's Full Membership Agenda in the MSG

Today, Monday (21/08/2023) at around 9:30 AM local time, the people of the Yapen archipelago were shocked by the presence of Indonesian Police troops from the Yapen Islands Resort using Strada type vehicles.

They came and terrorized and intimidated plans for worship at the residence of the Governor of the ULMWP Provisional Government to support West Papua's full membership in the MSG.

They were present to ban worship in support of ULMWP membership at the MSG Leaders Summit in Vanuatu which is taking place this Sunday.

When there was a siege by the Indonesian Police, the people of West Papua who were about to attend to pray became afraid and asked "what is the problem, so we must be strictly forbidden to pray to our God."

Responding to this situation, the chief executive of ULMWP for the Saireri Region, Mr. Edison Kendi who is also one of the chiefs of the major tribes in the Saireri Region as the person in charge said “this is an act that is not commendable and shameful. They (Indonesian police) act like street thugs”

He appealed to the head of the Indonesian National Police and the President of the Republic of Indonesia to immediately train their subordinates, especially the Yapen Islands Police, to work ethically, politely and professionally.

Mr. Kendi regretted the actions of the Head of Police Yapen in allowing his subordinates Kasad Mapta according to the position that his subordinates called as thugs at a Kindergarten (TK) by ordering them to conduct rounds of patrols at the residence of the chief of the Saireri tribe, Mr. Edison Kendi.

He continued, as fellow members of the MSG, there should be no need to act to intimidate each other like this, where Indonesia is a member of the MSG Association and West Papua (ULMWP) as an Observer Member who are currently both attending the MSG Meeting in Vanuatu (18 -24 August 2023). ).

"This is very regrettable because this is a continuous terror that is carried out by the Yapen Islands Police for us almost every time."

"Three times today, the police chief ordered his men to go back and forth to guard and block the entrance to our residence so that we did not dare to leave the house for fear of being killed."
