Masho Jima and Wakjira Tolasa have defended their Ph.D. dissertation at the senate hall successfully today; both candidates are from the Department of Mathematics.

On the occasion, Dr. Mulugeta Wakjira research and postgraduate program coordinator and delegate of the College Dean made an opening remark and congratulated the academicians and audience.
Masho Jima’s dissertation is entitled, “Numerical Treatment of a class of singularly perturbed Nonlinear Parabolic Partial Differential Equations”, whereas Wakjira Tolasa’s dissertation is entitled, “Fitted Numerical Methods for singularly perturbed parabolic partial differential Equations with Large Negative shift and Integral Boundary Conditions”.

The supervisor of the two candidates is Prof. Gemechis File Duressa, whereas
the chairperson of the defense is Dr. Getahun Bekele.

The examiners for Masho Jima were Prof.Wubshet Ibrahim and Dr. Awoke Andargie, whereas for Wakjira Tolasa, Dr. Awoke Andargie and Dr.Mitiku Daba.
Finally, the examining board has declared the result of the candidates, that both of them have finished their Ph.D. in mathematics successfully,

Reda Nemo Hora, PhD Candidate in Applied Microbiology, College of Natural Sciences, and Department of Biology has successfully defended his PhD Dissertation. The title of his research work is “Microbiological and Nutritional Analysis of Selected Traditional Fermented Beverages of Ethiopia: Prospect for the Development of Starter Cultures, Probiotics and Shelf Life Enhancement.”

The candidates did his research under close supervision of Prof.
Ketema Bacha. He managed to publish four of his main findings on international journals and processing others for publication.

Reda’s research clearly addressed the significance of low acid- alcohol beverages as potential sources of starter cultures (for controlled fermentation), human nutrition, probiotics (microbes to
enhance health of the consumers), and the potential application of medicinal plants for extension of keeping quality of beverages.
The PhD Dissertation was critically evaluated by renowned professors from Addis Ababa University (Prof. Mogessie Ashenafi, External Examiner) and Jimma University (Prof. Zeleke Mekonnen, Internal Examiner).
