Maximize your drive time by incorporating Chinese into your car rides. Listen to your favourite Chinese music and podcasts. These could be ones targeted for children or even popular c pop music. Most importantly is one that you and your child enjoy. If you are consistently driving half hour every day, that could be 3.5 hours of Chinese exposure in the car every week. It adds up quickly if you are taking car rides often. So use this time to your advantage to add fun Chinese time. You might even want to listen to Little Explorers Canto classes in the car so the kids have no chance of running away. Do you do Chinese during your car rides?

Do small doses of Chinese every day instead of one large chunk of time once a week/month to see results. Kids have shorter attention span. Small doses helps put the learning into long term memory. It can also build consistency and routine.

Small daily doses can include:
⭐️ reading for a few minutes every day
⭐️ singing a song together
⭐️ talking to family in Chinese for 5 min a day
⭐️ playing one game together
⭐️ work on one character a day
⭐️ and more

This will look different for every family. As your family builds fluency, these will change over time. Start now with one small thing and you can add more over time.

It is Tomb Sweeping Day. This festival is observed by many families around the world. It is a time to pay respect to ancestors. It also falls in the spring. During this time, families would enjoy spring outings together which could include flying a kite or playing on the swings.

In Term 1, we learn about Ching Ming Festival among other big Chinese festivals. We learned how to make a simple kite together as well. Have you made the kite? Did it fly? It can be tricky. It's also a good work out running around trying to get it fly.

Each term covers different themes. In each term we sing different songs, learn different vocabulary and do different activities. Families are welcome to join any of the terms available. It does not need to be completed in order. Lessons will help expand the kids vocabulary, strengthen existing vocabulary and build an overall positive relationship to Cantonese learning.

Learning a language can be challenging but it can also be a lot of fun! At Little Explorers Canto 細路仔學廣東話, our families have a lot of fun learning Cantonese together. We sing a lot of songs that will surely get stuck in your kid's head (but in a good way)! These songs are written for Cantonese speakers with tones and vocab in mind written by our educators, Eveline and Dorothy.

We also do a lot of art! Drawing with Cherry is always a lot of fun. Even through the screen, she is always making us laugh. We use art to enhance language development as it offers a non-verbal and visual method to communication. It also motivates many young children to participate. We love seeing the children's beautiful artwork after each lesson.

Our educators built this program from scratch with our children and all our families at Little Explorers Canto in mind. Each part of the program was created with care and love because we want your child to succeed. We want them to enjoy learning and speaking Cantonese.

Term 3 is all about food. We will learn about some of the most common food items in different food groups that we can get at the grocery store. Then we will take some of those ingredients and make some delicious foods. We will learn some cooking vocabulary so when your family is preparing for a meal, you can say these vocab together. Lastly, we will learn about eating out. Let's read a menu together and start ordering our favourite Chinese dishes!

Term 3 registration is now open and will officially launch this weekend on April 1st. This term we will learn about food - grocery shopping, cooking and dining out all in Cantonese.

Language Learning Tip: Make language learning a natural part of your day by being consistent.

Language learning is a lifelong journey and the key to success is consistency. Even if you are starting out, set a time that you can commit to every day. It can be 5 minutes or it can be longer. Make it a habit to do one thing in the target language at the same time every day to help your family be consistent.

We get daily exposure by reading or listening to stories and books in Cantonese every day. How do you incorporate language into your day? If you want to make it a routine, what do you plan to do with your child? Let us know.
