The peace and tranquillity that fishing from a kayak offers cannot be matched especially when nature puts on a spectacle like this.

Photos from Bush 'n Beach Fishing Magazine's post 16/04/2024

I’ve just been reading this article from Bush 'n Beach Fishing Magazine and I’ve taken away some good tips that’s for sure!

We spend so much time on planning a trip out on the water and we spend a fair amount of money at the same time. It stands to reason that if we can implement a few easy steps, it will ensure the quality of the fish resources you catch yield the best end product on the table! Hopefully and I mean HOPEFULLY I can get onto some Snapper in the coming months from the Kayak off Redcliffe or Wellington Point, which is my wife’s favourite fish to eat 🫶🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻anyone want to help make those dreams a reality??

A deadly combination for Flathead 14/04/2024

Here’s a little snippet showing a deadly soft plastic and jig head combination for Flathead.

Nothing wrong with a little publicity for a couple of local South East Qld tackle makers Gobblers Lures and Sharp point jigheads. Great gear and support the little guys at the same time!

Also I don’t tend to upload full clips on Facebook. YouTube will be the home of the full episodes of my adventures, subscribe to my channel while you are at it!

Cheers!

Matt

I never thought about rigging a curl tail grub upside down, very good idea and I plan to do just that next time I’m out!

So the weather gods played nicely today, therefore I decided quite last minute to fish the run out tide in my local estuary hitting the water around 11am.
I began to cast my favourite profile the 3.75” Paddle Tail Shad by Gobblers Lures in UV CROC BAIT & LIME SLAMMER. I flicked at lots of nice structure such as w**d bank edges, drop offs and sand banks and had a great session boating maybe 7-8 smaller flatties, jagged a whiting by the tail, a bream in the guts and all flatties were up around the 25-35cm mark. Got one weigher at 42cm. Conditions were amazing, water temps around 25 degrees Celsius, despite the rain recently the system was nice and salty and remarkably not turbid as first expected! Doesn’t matter if it’s all small models, it’s a sign of a healthy system and lots of fun! Going to try and make a short film to hopefully explain the techniques used and the areas and features I chose to fish 🎣

Absolutely ridiculous Sunshine Coast weather today. I’ve been watching a lot of bait schools getting smacked from above and below the surface by schools of Tuna or other pelagic species. I’ve been watching the passing boat parade wondering where the next destination is, quite a few appeared to be trolling but not many appeared to stop their passage due to a hookup. Can only imagine how nice it would be to be out in the yak with conditions like they are ☺️

Catch of the day 🍩 saver!

Joined a great group of like minded fishos and mad keen kayakers from the Southside Kayaking Cartel today for their first group Meet and Greet for 2024 up Kookaburra Park in the upper tidal reaches of the Brisbane River. It’s safe to say that if experienced fishos have a tough time getting any bites, yours truely jagging a juvenile Bullrout trolling a Sharp point jigheads Wiggle Wart was pure fluke.

If you’ve never explored the upper reaches of the Brisbane River, you are missing out. The scenery is actually spectacular and surely makes up for the lack of activity below the surface.

All in all a great day despite the fishing being on the quietly tough side. Must say thank you to Wayne from Gobblers Lures for the prizes on offer, Fischer Mob, Amanda Phil and Fiona for hosting a fantastic day!

Managed to kick off 2024 with a PB Tailor on the yak!

So it’s been 3 months since I’ve wet a line and I’ve been chomping at the bit to get out. The summer has been messed up between feral heat and monsoon rain and moving house it really has been a fizzer.

So I ventured to an Estuary close to home and decided I would throw my favourite plastic the UV Croc Bait 3.75” Paddle Shad by Gobblers Lures rigged on a 1/8oz Sickle Jighead by Sharp point jigheads. First up was a legal Whiting that managed to flick itself off the hook rather than stay still for a picture….
Some time later found a big bust up and my senses said don’t chuck a plastic knowing it was Tailor but, I did and as luck (and some skill) would have it, that sharp sickle hook and UV Croc Bait Paddle Shad hooked my PB Tailor at 55cm!

Wound up the session trolling some lures on the change of the tide and got railed by something that decided it liked my Daiwa Double Clutch more than me apparently 🤣 3kg braid on a 1000 Sedona half the spool disappeared before my eyes and then 💥PING! The lure left the chat…

The amount of ghost pots around makes trolling interesting…..

Looking forward to busting out the bass gear and trying my new Gobblers 3” Frogs up Kookaburra Park this Saturday 23rd March with the Southside Kayaking Cartel Meet and Greet! Swing over to the group to check them out!

Have a great week!

🍩 Saver 🙈 Got on the water bang on 5am. Conditions on the water this morning were spot on, breeze was only a very slight SE, water was pretty clean despite the storms last night, tonnes of bait flicking about in the first 2 hours of the run in. This small flatty liked the look of the Daiwa Double Clutch 95mm in Sakura Suji colour. I cast plastics of all colours shapes and sizes, hard bodies, vibes, you name it, it got a soaking. Ventured over to the Fisherman’s Island side of the river to get a feel of the Garmin Striker 7 side imaging in deeper water. There was bu**er all boat traffic. Tried the rock wall at Pinkenba, even snuck in the inside to cast into the eddys and calm sections as the tide pushed in and after peppering every location for an hour or so, decided to call it quits as the day started to heat up. I’ll blame the moon phase 😂 Better luck next trip!

Caught my first Kurwongbah Saratoga trolling in the main basin yesterday. Such a cool fish jumping about like a madman! Last time I caught a Saratoga was Borumba back in 1995. A few other reasonable fish boated. Good session considering I hadn’t wet a line in 50 days!

JUST HOW GOOD IS THIS NATIVE TITAN 10.5 KAYAK? Full Review - Upgrades - Accessories - Modifications 02/11/2023

Well someone didn’t like the fact I shared some alleged “false information” and “political views” or something like that which really weren’t really my views, I mentioned these are made in the USA, the video is literally a walk around my fishing platform, aka my Native Titan, so a previous post was taken down 🤣🤣 some people 🙈so stuff it, here it is again if you missed it! If you’ve been thinking of buying any other brand, hit me up if you are in South East Qld for a water test first, while it’s a little older, pretty much everything is the same as current!

My mate Wayne Palmer of Gobblers Lures is finalising productions plans on these cool little Wave Prawns. I will be securing a handful once they become available. If you rig w**dless like I do, I reckon you should let them know.

I’m in the process of deciding whether to make the wave prawn suitable for w**dless rigging.
I don’t use w**dless much myself. It’s another change if we go this way.

What are you thoughts?

Let us know if you do or don’t rig w**dless.
TIA

Last weekend I paid a visit to Lake Kurwongbah aka “Lady K” and I trolled lures almost the entire session! I was however met with multiple technical difficulties with my camera gear, mics going flat, go pro was overheating, light settings making it look like it was filmed on the surface of the sun but, I managed to create a film I could share to show you how easy it is to troll for Bass 👌🏻 I’ve popped it in the comments, I hope you can take a look!

Bit late to the party, but… I hit up Lake Kurwongbah for a morning sesh yesterday. It was fairly quiet until the day started to heat up. Lost count of how many I caught which isn’t a bad thing. 😅 I caught a variety of sizes of Bass on a variety of lures so that was a cool experience to have. They were most aggressive on my RMG Purple Poltergeist hands down! I got absolutely owned by something, I guessed it was probably a potential 50cm+ that nearly tore my Railblaza holder apart and peeled off a half dozen metres of drag wound up to the max on my bait caster that’s running pretty heavy line for this type of fishing and pay back was it bricking me and the loss of a lure. But it was a really great day out all round! Slowly working out this impoundment fishing, I actually have a feeling I am learning how Bass behave throughout the day and around the different structure. Like it’s actually making sense!
Hoping to edit and launch a film from this trip next weekend on my YT channel https://youtube.com/?si=PTEZvBm-_2SAbrct so keep a lookout for it and subscribe so you don’t miss it ✌🏻

When your being escorted back to the launch spot by fellow competitors because the risk of being mobbed for photos and autographs once ashore is very real and you need backup!

Entered my first ever kayak fishing comp today as part of team “SKC Represent!” with Fiona Allen, at Ewen Maddock Dam! I have to admit it was pretty intimidating at first but I was glad I had a great team mate Fiona so at least I knew someone 😅

I boated 14 Bass in total with the best going 35cm, not quite enough to join the top 5, but it honestly was a total blast. Most Bass ever caught in one session! Pretty good considering it’s literally my 3rd time fishing a stocked impoundment and never been to EMD before 🙊

My biggest Bass was caught on a lipless crank bait by Sharp point jigheads that I only bought off him this morning 🤓 Simon Carter literally sells every type of lure you could buy he hand paints and assembles, look his page up and message him. He also does a huge range of custom jig heads plus he is a top bloke as well👌🏻

Such a great experience with the lads from Ewen Maddock Fish Management Inc running a fantastic event and thanks to Justin Gibson for offering guidance and support leading up to today, and I’m totally keen for more 😎🙊

Another memorable catch from the archives with this cracking Spanish Mackerel caught up in the Gulf going just on 10 years ago! We were trolling Halco Laser Pro’s late in the day on the way back to our base at Birri Fishing Resort on Mornington Island and I’ll never forget the screaming sound of the drag on the .fish TLD20 overhead reel as this fish peeled off a ridiculous amount of line. Great memories and not a bad way to spend a lay day at work after winds called off the crane lifts 🙌🏻

A cracking Queenie casting poppers in a remote location in the Gulf of Carpentaria off Mornington Island with the crew from the Birri Fishing Lodge. See, it’s not only Bass, Bream and Flatties on my list of species 😉👌🏻
