It's the last few days of my Toon Fans United exhibition at Newcastle City Library. If you haven't visited yet and want to, do pop in before close of play on Friday.

Photos of the windows of a closed-for-refit shop in Weesp, The Netherlands, I stumbled upon earlier this month. A lovely exhibition of photographs documenting the local traders. It looks like it had been there for a while, and I just caught it, as the next day, it was being taken down.
Bad News/Good News post.
Bad news first. Unfortunately the Toon Fans United exhibition is unable to be displayed in Forest Hall Library in the month of June.
Good news, though! In light of this, and with no booking in the space to follow, the exhibition has been granted an extended run on the 6th floor of Newcastle City Library until Friday 28th June.
Do pop in if you haven't already, or send your friends along!
Can't wait for The Hoppings! North East Bylines article with one of my photos in (licenced).
The Hoppings 2024 The Hoppings is all set to be back in Newcastle for the 142nd time 21 - 39 June
Thank you so much to Newcastle City Library for having me at The Late Shows last night. Really enjoyed chatting to people, Hidden Agenda DJ set and people silent discoing (especially to YMCA!) while looking at my Toon Fans United exhibition.
And the drawings you all made! 😍 I've included photos of some here.
Thanks again to Kate Stuart and family for helping me set up.
Exhibition is back on Newcastle City Library Level 6 now until 31st May, so do pop in if you haven't seen it yet. After that, it's going to Forest Hall library - 4th - 27th June. And North Shields library in the month of August. If anyone has suggestions of where it can visit in July, please let me know, as I have a gap!
And we're off! My Toon Fans United documentary photography exhibition and zine stall at The Late Shows, now with added all-ages participatory art activity! 2nd floor Newcastle City Library until 10 pm.
For a closer look at my Toon Fans United photography exhibition, it's on the 6th floor at Newcastle City Library until 31st May. Don't forget the 3rd cabinet along the way!
My exhibition, Toon Fans United is now at Newcastle City Library 6th floor until 31st May.
(it officially starts 1st May but it's up already)

Photography exhibition uncovering the deep sense of identity and community forged through a shared love of a football team.
----
In recent years, Newcastle photographer Hazel Plater has spent many hours walking the streets around St James' Park football stadium and selected other locations, with her camera. Sometimes met with bemusement, other times unbridled joy, the resulting photo exhibition, entitled Toon Fans United, features compelling crowd, group and individual environmental portraits of football fans, both candid and engaged, uncovering the deep sense of identity and community forged through a shared love of a football team.
The Toon Fans United exhibition, 16 framed prints selected from photographs Hazel made for the project in 2022-24, is touring the local area, starting at Battle Hill library, with a preview event on Thursday 7th March 2024, 2.15 pm - 3.30 pm. The exhibition continues there until Thursday 25th April 2024. Battle Hill library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 am - 1 pm and 2 pm - 5.30 pm and Saturdays 9 am - 1 pm.

Thanks so much to Wallsend Library for inviting me to present some of my photographs in accompaniment to Wallsend Writers' readings today. The exhibition continues throughout February on a screen (where I find myself in some inspiring company, with no less than Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen and Jimmy Forsyth works either side on the walls). There are also display boards of some of the Wallsend Writers' work, plus you can have a, 'Blind Date with a Book' and see some LGBT+ portrait photography from Phyllis Christopher and Richard Bliss in, Handing on our History. Lovely to see such a wide cultural offering from North Tyneside Libraries and Community Centres.

I always had the power to add a ‘precept’ to your council bill. I know other politicians do it, but I know how many people out there are struggling to pay their bills. I’ve added £0 to your council tax. Instead, I’ve levered in millions in ethical private investment to ensure I create thousands of jobs and keep our regional economy growing.
I believe in putting money in people’s pockets, not taking it out.
I’ve made sure that the new North East Mayoral Authority will continue what I’ve started, and not add anything to council bills in the first year. As North East Mayor, I’d continue that and my track record proves that I keep my promises.
Now we're into February, I just wanted to share about this event again and to add that the slideshow of my photographs will remain in Wallsend library for the rest of the month, alongside the writers' work.

Save the (romantic) date!
This will be a first for me - having my photography in a slideshow to accompany Wallsend Writers giving readings. My work shown here will be varied - some of my documentary photography that fits the subject, plus some of my landscape and nature photography, for added romance. I will also be there with a 'pop-up shop' of prints and publications, which may make a lovely Valentine's gift for the photography lover in your life, or just for yourself. :-)
I think I found my photography mojo in 2023. I photographed a lot of fun public events, which helped - Moving Parts' puppetry festival, with a giant blue octopus roaming Newcastle's Northumberland Street (pictured) being a stand out. I also had fun at Chinese New Year in both and , Whitley Bay Carnival, Newcastle Pride (despite the rain), visited Appleby Horse Fair for the first time and loved it, and Durham Miners' Gala, as ever.
Although I'm still a dedicated Adobe Lightroom Classic user, I took a certified, professional level course in Adobe Photoshop and even passed it!
I had my first solo exhibition, The Re-Emergence at Newcastle Contemporary Art / High Bridge Works with a little accompanying book through Maplestreet Press.
Maria Maza and I returned to doing our Saturday Night Street project and I had some of my work from it published in her excellent Seen.by.zine.
I volunteered with Jamie Driscoll, North of Tyne Mayor, who will hopefully next become our Independent North East Mayor, photographing at his Q&As across the region, with many more events ahead as we gear up to the May election.
I think I've enjoyed photographing fans outside of St James' Park the most, (something that weirded me out, due to the sheer volume of people, when I first tried this several years back). I just have a few more months on this project before I need to finalise and print for my Toon Fans United exhibition, which will tour the local area in 2024.
I also have the seed of a new series, that will hopefully develop in 2024-5.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me in 2023.
Wishing you all a very happy and productive 2024!
